What's missing from your traditional collection?

So I was looking for something else, came across this thread again, and read the following:

Well, I'll be. I'd forgotten writing that out, let alone in one post!

Sometime between there and here, this happened:

Not only that, but I also just brought home a White Whale of a find.

No, really:

Gulp. I s'pose I can stop, now?

So, uhhhhm. "Good, thanks. How 'bout you?"

that middle one is awesome!!!! well they all are, but i like that middle!

I've pared down my entire knife collection to...

GEC #77 Barlow Spear/Coping in Smooth Ivory Bone
GEC #77 Washington Jack Clip Point in Ebony
GEC #85 Bullet End Jack Clip Point in Natural Stag
Hess Knives Tiburon, polished whitetail antler handle
A modern folder for daily beater purposes

Obviously, my "missing" list is longer than my "gotten" list. TC Barlow New Day in jigged or soup bone, Outlaw Jack, #25, a primitive bone knive. I don't have ANY GEC knives in jigged bone, which just makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong. I don't have a single sheep foot blade.

There are a few but these come to mind.
- A rehandle or mod by Glenn (I've tried a few times to get a project started but have always had to back out due to life happening)
- A custom build by Brent Cramer, a gents knife Ive wanted for a while now
- A single blade 15 (somehow I let all those go)
- Another serialized #10 on either a 73, 72, or similar sized pocket knife
- A single 48 SFO African Blackwood by Mike Latham - The 2 blade would work as well
- I missed out on the new Clip NF Barlows
- A G.L. Drew hatchet or another light weight hunter
- A puukko by Sami Länsipaltta.

I have a lot of patterns/styles missing from my collection, but mostly because I don't care for them. Out of the ones that I just have not gotten around to buying yet an Opinel is probably at the top.

An opinel
A GEC of some kind
A cv sodbuster Jr
A Christy Knife
A fish'n toothpick in carbon
A full sized vic sak
I'd like something small with a bail again in cv ( if a baby bullet trapper or baby Barlow exists with a bail that'd be awesome )
Lastly I really wouldn't mind having a Lanny's clip.

I'm just getting started, but my list isn't that long ( not to me anyway ) because I don't really want one of everything.

I have a modest GEC/Case/Queen collection (love GEC most though), but I'm very proud of it, and I would be content if it doesn't expand.

That being said, there are a few that I would love to have if I could just be quick or rich enough when opportunity strikes. I'll only list ones that are reasonable to my budget. I'll likely never own a custom...

#15 TC Clip in antique amber sawcut - grail
#15 TC Tan Jigged single sheepsfoot -keep missing this one - but still confident I'll land it
#15 smooth ivory (or white?) Sheepsfoot - won't hold my breath
#57 Gepetto Wharncliffe - pretty much any handle

What is lacking in my collection is enough remaining years of life to carry the ones I already have long enough to get some feel for them, and lack of a lifestyle that needs me to carry one at all.

In other words - I already have more than I will ever need.
+1
Nevertheless I miss a CSC barlow and muskrat, a Bark River little & mini Canadian, a Winchester 4 and 2 blades whittler, a warthog navette, a small mineur, a Colonial Troops knife, a Sportsman and a Fisherman's M. Herrero (my grail), aso...

I certainly echo what jc57 said Tempus fugit...:D There's also order missing from my collection, knives go MIA for weeks on end, another sign of sufeit:D

But today, a huge gap in my collection was filled Ken K from Canada very kindly sent me what I've been regarding as a Missing Link :D:D
I hope what I send in return will make a very generous man happy!

Nice one, Will. That's a beautiful knife!

There are several GEC's that I think are "missing" from my collection, mostly patterns that pre-date my introduction to the company (only bought my first a little over a year ago), others that I was dumb enough to pass on when they came out and now regret not picking up (Charlie's Texas Camp Knife, for example).

Although I have a couple, I also feel like my collection is lacking older knives. I've been trying to keep my eyes out for some around here locally, but there don't seem to be a lot (or I'm not looking in the right places). One thing I love seeing on here but haven't been able to get my hands on are Case knives with that old, dark red bone. As a handle material, I don't think it gets much better.

I believe that most of the patterns that I don't have in my collection are knives that I know I wouldn't carry often, if at all. Whittlers, Sowbellies, Congress knives, Bird Hooks, Equestrians, Hobos, etc.

I would like to add a Moose or "Improved" Muskrat, if I can find one on the smaller end. I'd also like to add a tear drop and sway back. Hopefully, someone does a run of Coffin Jacks, too.

JC I feel your pain. Seems I read a lot of threads where lines are drawn and on one side those that use all their knives and on the other side those that don't and both are passionate about their choices. If I pocketed each one of my knives one day at a time it would take a very long time to carry all of them so I don't think that will ever happen. Even with this problem I can't seem to stop buying them. What is missing from my collection the next one I see that strikes my fancy.

Actually there are a couple I would love to get-a blue cub scout knife,we all know them, and the largest buck stockman in the black sawn delrin covers, one of the few mementos I had of my grandfather afternoon his passing. Both were lost in an accidental house fire that was my fault(burning candle), fortunately no one was hurt. My folks didn't know I'd left, so they figured they'd find my body for awhile. Not a lot of laughs. I don't need these, but I would really enjoy having them. On the whole even tho everything of mine burned, I was just happy my 8yr or so old nephew who was visiting and parents weren't harmed. I still need to replace these but haven't, because it seems something else always catches my eye. Someday...😎👍
Thanks, Neal

I've always wanted a Marbles Safety knife...

I'd even be happy with the Bulldog version

These are the ones still missin' from my collection although given a few moments I could easily come up with a dozen or so ;) :).

Ted, I've always been fascinated with the Swedish Barrel knives. That would be a nice addition to anyone's collection.
