What's so special about the Busses?

Sounds like you guys know all there is to know about Busse knives then. It seems ludicrous that I keep reading about Busse knives can't this and can't that.

They can do it. But there are far better task oriented tools available.

They're just a sharpened prybar and so on. Why don't you get some experience with something before you talk crap.

I have used a few, took them on camping trips. Wasn’t impressed (Unlike the hype would suggest). Like I said, the novelty of a thick piece of steel wears off soon enough to feel it.

I hike, camp, skin, cook, whittle, etc. with mine. It seems that if someone else isn't able to do this, maybe they are limited and not the knife.

A cheap little Mora out-carves, A hatchet out-splits and a machete out-chops. All costing fractions of what a Busse does. Even if price were not a factor, there are more suitable tools for these tasks.

Do you actually take all that stuff camping?

I never cared for mora's either ;I too do not bash those folks , I have commented a few times to this topic and I am done as this thread should be,the posting of this thread should have posted it in the Busse section of this forum and all the bashing comments I don't think would have came out ,everybody has different taste for food /cars /women and also knives; hence all they different styles & makers.Let's move on ,Busse is a great knife not everybody can afford and not all are sharpen prybars but there are folks who are gonna poke and prod just for the sake of keeping this thread going on....

Why is everybody getting so upset. It's all a matter of opinion. It's like the Ford guy and the Chevy guy. The Glock guy and the Sig guy. The boob guy and the butt guy. I would like to try a Busse but 1-don't know of anyone near me that owns one. 2-I don't want to shell out that kinda money for one( the most I ever spent was 150. and that was for a big blade-RD9-and I thought that was way too much). 3-and if I did have one I think I would be too scared to use it due to the cost(I've only had my RD9 out once) I like the lower cost knives to beat up. I beat them hard -shy of chopping a brick in half- and have yet to have anything happen to them. The busse line of knives are pritty, hell I would own one just for the looks if I could. As for the hype... until I can hold and use one I will never know. That being said if anyone wants to GIVE me one...just PM me and I'll send you my address.

Yep. People defend these things like they personally forged them or something. I use an RD9 in the woods. Go ahead and say the RD9 sucks if you want. That's cool, I really couldn't care less. I don't feel that Ranger Knives needs me to personally defend all attackers.

You say tomato... I say tomato.... let's call the whole thing off.....

LOL i kike that boob and butt guy were's the guy with the big gugs avitar. well as for worring about using it why worrie if it is damaged busse say's it will be replace no questions... brick hack away:)

No, usually just a folding knife (Case 6.5 Moose), even on long wilderness trips, don't need anything more most of the time "The more you know the less you carry", although I will throw in a FB or folding saw if I feel like it. Usually a FB if hunting. And the axe/hatchet usually stays tucked away until longer trips when the mercury drops. A machete doesn't see much use with me.

What if I say "Termater"?:D:D

You're right, I'm being a bit defensive. I guess it's almost election time and I'm gearing up for all the media trash talk.:barf: I need to get outside a little more, obviously.:foot:;):D

some one put a bullet in this thread please i keep reading it and it gone way off topic as said on the first page what a can of worms.

The reason I carry one tool. Sure there are individual tools that outperform a large blade but non do as much with as much utility.

This debate has been done to death the knife vs axe vs saw vs small blade. Its personal preference. I am usualy miles from a road and have to hump gear in so a medium large blade that chops cuts splits and prys is a tool thats most useful to me. I leave the saw, hatchet, axe at home as I am not building a log cabin.

Skam

What's so special about Busse?

You can strike up conversation anywhere if you mention them.;):D

The same can be said of the Nessmuk phenomenon.

Not true. Last week we had a thread about the Nessmuk as a bushcraft knife, and everyone agreed that its not ideal for that list of tasks compared to other styles.

I've really held off posting to this thread, but it has become such a train wreck, why not?

If I have to pack all my gear several miles or more back into the woods, I sure as heck don't want to carry a hatchet, saw, machete, etc. Car camping is a whole different story.

I just recently made this decision myself. I can do everything I need in the field (and then some) including dressing out an Elk by carrying a Swamp Rat Battle Guard (has full flat grind), and a regular EDC folder like my BM 943 or Ritter Grip RSK for a fraction of the weight.

Sure, there might be better tools for each individual job, but when pack weight is an issue you make compromises. For me, the Battle Guard and one of my EDC's are a perfect match, and I feel I'm not making very much of a compromise versus carrying all the other tools. After ACTUALLY USING this combo myself, I can't see why anyone else wouldn't.

To each his own though...

If this thread is going to end as some have suggested it should (oh, and that is just fine with me, BTW :D ), let it end on a positive note.

So, by popular demand, you can at least look at my avatar again. And for you butt guys, sorry, I couldn't find a butt shot that was as nice.

It really comes down to what people like, if somebody likes Busse, then thats what they like, I have owned a few Busse's, Leatherman bought my old school steel heart (hope its still working for ya bud). And really enjoyed using them, my taste changed, and I bought something else.

Ive carried so many large blades in the past (so many years lol) its not even funny. If I carry a large one its a Fehrman FJ or a Matt Lamey Bowie, and a David Wesner, on hikes I carry a Bark River Bravo 1 (now thats a great blade). They all work for what they were designed for.

IMHO its all about using your blades, who cares what everyone else is carrying, using, collecting. Use what your happy with and thats all that matters. Learn how to use the blade, know its weakness (they all have them) and learn how to work around that.

I can tell you right now, atleast 90% of the knife users are not going to tell the difference between which large chopper is better in actual use, Unless it comes down to handle comfort.(blisters suck dont they? )

Busse makes a great blade, hey guess what so does Fehrman, oh yeah so does Bill Siegle, and David Wesner, and so many others, buy a blade that you like, that works for you, and enjoy it, and may it bring you comfort while out in the woods.

P.S The 1911 will always be king LMAO

To start, I would like to say that I want a decent Busse family blade most likely a decent sized Swamp rat, but what I have to trade won't seem to do it.

What irritates me is this:

- 1st off, Busse websites suck and are literally useless
- Busse guys generally don't like to trade out of the family (my busse for your busse crap)
- They do not come with sheaths and if someone buys an after market sheath then the price rises significantly
- the naming structure is just plain weird (my SSNFO for your OBGYN)
- even the used blades are just as expensive as if they came from the factory

I just don't get it. Even though I would like one, I do not see it happening any time soon.

BUSSES SUCK! WORST KNIFE EVER! Here's a lymrick that proves how much they suck:

This whore had a knife bought from Busse.
The knife was incredibly fussy.
She heated it, you see
to 1100 degrees
and all that got hot was that hussy!

HA! Just had to do it :)

To each their own.
...
Personally though I just love to keep looking for the ultimate knife (albeit don't have a lot of funds to do that), but it is still fun.
...
We all have our own likes/dislikes, but I feel sometimes we just ought to be happy for the other guy - who finds pleasure in what he enjoys (might not be what I like, or at the time be able to enjoy due to financial or other constraints) but that does not matter, I can still be happy for them.
...
Take it easy.

This might be the only sensible post in this thread (which btw- is in a forum devoted to knife collectors).
