What's so special about the Busses?

So I got constantly check the company store and hope that I luck out? Do they announce a date when theyre restocking on the webpage or an emailing list or anything??

Also, the catalog in .doc format I downloaded has the steel heart ergo for around $330, is that current? I'd definitely buy one at that price, but I'm seeing used ones for $450+ and there's no way in hell I'm paying that kind of mark up.

I'm not in a big rush to own one, but trying to buy one is a huge hassle.

idahoskunk, who runs the Busse Company Store, does lay down some pretty big hints in the Busse forum when knives are about to be listed. Said hints usually involve posting pictures of new knives.

That catalog is outdated. Busse is now into its third generation of blades. There were the "straight handled," the "ergo" versions, and now the "fusion" versions (a combination of the prior two). Unless it's a custom blade you're buying, you'll be looking at a fusion blade. FBM, for example, stands for Fusion Battle Mistress (Jaxx's knife pictured above).

If you're not in a rush, hang tight and the ASH-1's will be along soon. That's "Anniversary Steel Heart 1"-- a remake of one of Jerry's first knives in order to celebrate 15 years of Busse Combat. Those knives will be a regular offering from Busse's Shop. So you'll simply order, wait, and you will receive it. Though there is a considerable wait on Shop orders, you're not billed until a week or two before the knife is shipped to you. Here's the Special Edition version that was released at Blade Show '07.

What are the holes in the butt and guard for, not the lanyard hole but the other two, I see a lot of busse knives have them. Chris

The hole in the guard is a registered trademark of Busse Combat. The rear hole accommodates a lanyard and allows for a D-guard to be affixed to the handle.

Busse's make great survival knives. But they really work best in these situations:

both situations are mutually inclussive:thumbup:

Also Busse's are great chick magnets, look what I got only because she saw my 10 incher. Now I take her along my extended packing trips as my mule and my bedding.

No point in developing blisters. If you just HAVE to subject your BM to that type of chopping, make use of a good glove. You can also damage your hand by continual use/pounding on very hard materials, not to mention nerve stress. The TM will also give pains in the wrist and hand after extended use, but it is a decent all-rounder which gives good performance. The BM is a sort of compromise knife, but it is good for many applications. One of the benefits of the BM is the stiffness of the blade, it is indeed, a small pry-bar. In the hands of a competent user it is a great weapon and a survival tool. It does however, fail to chop as well as any of my Hossom 18 inch Ontarios, selected Kuks and my precision hatchets/axes. I favor the Basic 9 over the BM due to better balance and ergo qualities.

Of course, you could elect to use an axe or a timber saw, but, suit yourself. In general, try to use a tool for what it was designed for. I'll meet you at the top on the ridge, hands unscathed.

And even though I like boobs, having avatars with heavy titties does as well. :jerkit:

Cobalt, I'd really appreciate it if you would desist from posting that kind of smut on BladeForums. Somehow I lost track of 45 minutes. :(

Dawk, I mean Doc.

Cobalt??? Where the heck did you find that ultra rare Battle B#$%?? Looks like its been well used too!! WOW! Didnt know they could get that ugly! Congrats on the snag, hide her well. :)

There is a "Dont ask dont tell" policy on those isnt there?

Used to have several Busses, but sold all of them except one. Sure they have nice designs and can double as a crowbar, but I found them difficult to cut with, simple things like cardboard, compared to other knives. More hype than practical. I used a couple of Busses on military operations, and then got rid of them. Not very practical. The Battle Mistress sucked at chopping, used it in the jungles of Cambodia. That lasted for only one patrol, then got rid of it. Poor design on the handles and blade. I guess the blade would have been good if you wanted a small sword, but that is pretty impractical as well. Found my HI Khurkis or Cold Steel Khurki much better. As for all the hype I read about Military units using them, would like to see some documentation showing what unit is using them? I spent 8 years in Military Special Operations, and then the last 3 years working in Iraq and Afghan with other branches of the goverment and the only Busses I ever saw were the ones I owned, and one that I sold to a team member. He sold his also after a short time. IMHO, if you want a expensive fixed bladed knife for military or survival usage, get a Chris Reeve or stick with tradition and get a Randall. Have used both extensively and they are outstanding. PLus the service, especially to military service members is much better. Randall and Chris Reeve provide outstanding service and quick service to military members! The only BUsse I kept was a custom Zero Tolerance Natural Outlaw. Worked much better than the other Busses due to the thinner 3/16th blade. Plus, would have to agree with other posters, the Busse Forums does seem too cultish and weird. It is like people who do not have a life, so they just get more and more Busses and talk about how great the knives are, when the knives never leave their living room for the most part.
