No pictures of the dinner prep or meal today. It went quick, and all I grabbed was a picture of the leftovers. Slow braised Picanha with fresh black eye peas over an organic wild brown rice. Perfect for a cold day like today, and the diners have told me this made the “death row” list for them. I guess I’ll save the recipe. Didn’t seem too special when cooking, but I will agree it made my list of recipes to cook again soon. Just need to find another appropriate cut of meat.

The wine was fantastic.

Is that a vintage cast iron pan? If so, what brand? I've got a bit of an antique cast iron fetish. Food tastes better in cast iron, and that one looks remarkable!

It is a carbon steel pan from a local blacksmith. I can't remember his name, but if I do, I will send you a PM with his info. Awesome pan. More non stick than my cast iron, and very responsive to heat input from the gas range

I admit…I’m a sucker for aromatics at the table. That sprig standing up through an orange slice-I feel like I can smell it from here. Poached fruit with bourbon and rosemary is one of my favorite things. Some of our favorite breakfast joints make mimosas/breakfast cocktails with unconventional liquors, sprigs, stems, and savory spices. I think the smells are just as memorable as anything.

Steak sandwich and potato wedges for diner tonight.
