What's that you're eating?

1st time back at my favorite BBQ joint after completing my recent diet.

This is an order of St. Louis Ribs w/Corn on the Cob plus a pint of "Couch Potato" IPA (7% ABV) made by the Berryessa Brewing Company. Didn't properly frame the photo but you get the idea. 🤷‍♂️

Don't know why the knife & fork are in the pic. I used my hands (& a lot of napkins) to eat the ribs & corn. ;)

Went to the Alameda County Fair in Pleasanton, CA, yesterday where I was charged $15.54 for a pint of 805 IPA and refused to pay $22 plus tax for a turkey leg, which is more than I'd pay for a whole 22# turkey during TG! 🤷‍♂️

So, after leaving the fair, I went to a white table cloth Chinese restaurant in Livermore instead because I figured if I was going to be f*cked (I mean over-charged) I should at least enjoy the experience (if not the food). ;)

So, here are the over-priced offerings that I got that the restaurant . . .

A glass of Duckhorn Sauvignon Blanc w/a pair of Lettuce Cups filled with diced chicken & other stuff:

An order of Garlic Noodles and an order of Pawns with Mixed Veggies:

The Garlic Noodles & Shrimp/Veggies as plated:

The Garlic Noodles were really GREASY. The pawns were well cooked but tasteless. They needed salt but I didn't bother to ask for it.

You really don't want to know what I paid for this ordinary & mundane Chinese food meal but I will say that it would have paid for a pretty decent knife & that it was still money better spent than the $40 or so a beer & turkey leg would have cost me at the fair. LOL! ;)

If your In Livermore again. Go to John’s burger. Little old school burger joint. So good!

Twice baked potatoes tonight for my wife.

I also made a perfect okra stew today: perfect balance of tomatoes, garlic, spices, and bacon. Then I screwed up by adding a whole tub of crabmeat. A little crab would have been a nice addition, but I added too much and now I've got a pot full of crab chowdah. It's still good, just not what I wanted.

Thanks for the tip but I don't eat hamburgers anymore. 🤷‍♂️

However, it looks like John's sells some sandwiches that I'd order & it's located right across the street from a gun shop & Korean restaurant that I frequent. So, I'll check it out the next time I'm in the area.

Had to drive to the MB dealer in Pleasanton, CA today (not far from the fairgrounds that I visited yesterday) to buy some parts for my ML350 that's getting a brake job tomorrow.

Got a free "meal" of a Starbucks coffee & a bag of Famous Amos chocolate chip "cookies" (bites, really). 280 cals for a bag of 8. So, I only ate 4. Saved the rest for later because I'm still counting cals.

For those of you who do not know, the best places to get a free cup of joe & some nibbles are at BMW & MB showrooms. Everything is free at the coffee/juice bar and I've never been "carded" at any that I've frequented (even though I have proof that I own a BMW & MB). :)

PS: The best places to find a bathroom is in the lobby of a hotel. They don't usually "card" you there either for fear of offending an actual guest.. ;)

And the best place to break into and give birth for free is the building I work in. Yes, that actually happened last week. They broke into the cafeteria, which luckily has been closed since COVID and I will not be returning to. 🤮

That looks incredible! That bowl of hummus and the flat breads wouldn’t last five minutes around here. Lamb looks perfectly cooked too.

I found a farmers market today and grabbed some vegetables for the weekend. Made some mayo to go with the cabbage in a Cole slaw, green beans cooked with some salted fat back, potatoes sliced thin with some vidalia onions for a potato boulangere.

Thank you! It was! Pretty sure the lamb our store carries is from New Zealand and it really is spectacular. Impossible to screw up. Super tender. Prepped with red wine, Greek seasoning, rosemary, salt & pepper. The wife’s got her flatbread dialed. We’re planning to just nibble tomorrow. We’ll make a cucumber, red onion, and tomato salad to accompany the leftovers.

I’m always in awe of the quality of your steaks. And those knives are gorgeous of course. Absolute works of art.

How does your wife make your flatbread? It looks perfect everytime!!

Thanks. We have a couple good local butcher shops that have some good meat, especially if you don’t mind breaking down a larger cut yourself, which I prefer.

We will also be making a cucumber and tomato salad tomorrow. Farmers market was closing when I got there today, so the lady I bought vegetables from threw in several cucumbers and some green tomatoes with the other vegetables so she didn’t have to take them all home.

It’s so dang tasty! She said she uses imported Italian flour and yeast, powdered milk, olive oil and salt. She covers and lets it rest for at least a few hours. I’ve seen her portion them, roll them out, fold them, etc, and it always looks baffling to me but they really do seem perfect every time. She started a year or two ago with a cast iron skillet but now she’s using the cast aluminum griddle that came with her new range. She’s having a blast. And of course I feel incredibly spoiled!
