What's that you're eating?

Hmm, I assume conventional (and probably arbitrary) rules are meaningless on nightshift.

It’s quite something to work them and then go out drinking all morning treating it like a typical night out lol. We’d get out at 7am and one bar we used to go to didn’t open till 8 so we’d bring beers and start the party in the parking lot hehe.

Lunch outdoors at Hog Island Oyster Co. in Larkspur, CA.

You're looking at a platter of 12 Glacier Pt oysters from Kachemak Bay, CA AK on the left, a patter of 12 Moon Struck oysters from Humbolt Bay, CA on the right, a Caesar salad in front and some fish tacos to the rear left plus a pint of IPA brewed by "Pink Boots" of SF, CA.

The Glacier Pts were too small but the Moon Strucks were just right. The tacos and salad were ok but nothing to write home about. The mignonette sauce in the middle of the platters was kinda bland but the horseradish sauce was kicka$$!

All in all a very satisfying meal. :)

PS: Looks like I picked the "right" oysters to eat raw on this occasion.

-------------------------------------------

There were 6 varieties of oysters listed on the menu; 3 from British Columbia and 3 from the US. I picked 2 of the 3 US varieties on the menu because I was familiar w/the location where they were grown. Could have easily chosen one of the BC varieites instead but that might have been a serious mistake that I learned only after seeing/reading this article:

Norovius Linked to Oysters from BC

There's always a risk in eating anything raw, especially seafood, but it definitely paid off to BUY AMERICAN in this case. LOL! ;)

One of the things that I learned when I use to ride a motorcycle regularly is that some of the BEST places that you can eat at are the same places you can't afford to stay or play at.

This applies to the Meadowood Resort in Napa where I ate lunch today.

A few years ago, they had a fire (induced by local widefires) which destroyed its 3 star Michelin Restaurant that I had the good fortune to eat ate a few years earlier but they always had an "affordable" cafe on site where you could eat well for much less.

The restaurant and cafe have not been rebuilt yet but they just starting allowing "visitors" to dine at their pool side cafe. So, I took a drive out there in my Vette today.

Pictured is the smoked salmon and avocado toast w/a tall glass of Sonoma Springs Brewing "Dr. Feelgood" hazy (7.3% ABV) IPA. I also had a bowl of asparagus soup. No point posting pics of both. Everything was very good; just really OVER PRICED as to be expected.

They actually comp'd me 1 out of 2 glasses of the IPA because I mentioned that I didn't think it was "hoppy" enough and they didn't have anything "better" to replace it with but lunch still cost me $75 (including tax & tip) -- JUST FOR ME!

And here's a pic of the pool area where the cafe is located. Room rates at Meadowood can exceed $1k/ night.

PS: When I was leaving, there was a fairly new Rolls Royce blocking my way out at the security gate. Sorry no pics of that. LOL! ;)

What am I eating?

It's Holy Week at Augusta, and I'm watching the Masters.

Of course there is only ONE thing for a southern man to eat while watching the Masters.

Pimento Cheese Sammich.jpg

A pimento cheese sammich, of course!

Also served at every southern church pot luck dinner for the past hundred years.

Mussels, Ceasar's Salad and a pint of Maui Waui on the back deck at Sam's Cafe in Tiburon CA.

Here's a view of the deck from near the entry towards the Bay:

And here's a view of the Golden Gate Bridge from the breakwater along a walkway to the east of Sam's:

Say what you will about the politics of CA & SF and about the "problems" of crime, congestion and litter in the City but it is still one of the most beautiful places to live/visit, if you know where to look.

:)
