What's that you're eating?

Next up . . .

A dozen blue point oysters & a 1/2 rack of ribs (and an egg roll & a pile of rice) for lunch at an American-Chinese place (ie., more American than Chinese to suit the clientele) that I go to occasionally on the Sacramento River . . .

The oysters were great but the ribs were a little bit too chewy. I make them better at home. 🤷‍♂️

Next up . . .

Some crab cakes & another Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich but this one came w/a side salad instead & 2 pints of Racer 5 . . .

The crab cakes were great -- real crab & not much filler but I could have done w/less sauce. Must have Philly Cheese on the brain. The 2nd Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich was ok but the other 1 was better. 🤷‍♂️

Next up . . . eggs!

With all of the talk about the shortage of eggs due to bird flu, I was worried that there wouldn't be any eggs available when I went to my local Costco yesterday. Not to worry . . . they had stacks of them piled up chest high . . .

I just bought a flat of 5 dozen & now have 8 dozen in my frig . . .

BTW, these are the best prices I've seen for eggs anywhere in my area.

And next, a whole 2# Hamachi (Amberjack) that I bought at a Filipino market after I finished shopping at Costco that I froze for later consumption after gutting, prepping & vacuuming sealing it myself . . .

It was on sale for only $1.99/#.

And lastly, a bowl of Pig Tail Soup that I made from some pig tails that I bought at the same Filipino market where I bought the Hamachi . . .

There are just 5 ingredients . . . pigtails, black eyed peas, dried dates, salt & water . . . & it's delicious. This market use to just charge 99 cents/# for pigs tails which is all they are worth but have raised the price for them several times to $4/# now which is 2x more than the fish cost.

Anyway, I'm been making this dish for decades. My mother taught me the recipe. Don't knock it if you have never tried it. 😉
