What's that you're eating?

My first Focaccia turned out pretty well.

Then, tomato basil soup with chicken Caesar salad.

A Chinese BBQ take out spot opened in my home town just a week ago.

Here's a pic of the meat hanging in the window in the kitchen in the back. Looks just like what you'd see in C-town or 99 Ranch:

Bought a whole roast duck & 2 lbs of BBQ pork (cha siu):

I prefer to cut them up myself so I always buy Chinese roast duck & BBQ pork uncut. When I have the meat on hand, the easiest way to serve the roast duck & BBQ pork is as a topping for ramen.

Here's a pic of a bowl of roast duck & bok choy ramen that I made last night:

The only thing I add is some sweet plum sauce on top of the duck. You could also use hoisin sauce if you prefer a more savory flavor.

It's a simple & delicious dish. 😋

And here's a bowl of BBQ Pork & Bok Choy Ramen that I just made for lunch:

So, now I don't have to drive over 20 miles to a 99 Ranch to buy Chinese BBQ anymore. ☺️

The BBQ shop was opened by the owner of the take out Dim Sum spot next door & I also grabbed a couple of Steamed BBQ Pork Buns for a snack on my way back to the car.

A pic of some grilled oysters, a large salad & a couple pints of beer at my favorite dive bar in the Central Valley that you've seen before:

And a pic of a serving of Korean Bo Saam (for 2) that I tried for the 1st time with some ban chan, steamed rice &, of course, a bottle of beer (out of the pic).

Didn't much care for the radish salad with marinated oysters in it wsmelled/tasted way too fishy even for me. Didn't use any of the raw garlic & sliced jalapenos either. But the boiled pork was very tender & tasted great topped w/some saam jang wrapped in the lightly pickled cabbage. 😋

This was a simple post midnight snack last night, woke up hungry (2:30am) and that’s the best sign I’ve had since my Portellos a couple of weeks ago.

Simple ham cut up into chunks and lightly fried in butter, a cup of rice mixed into it, and topped with 2 eggs semi sunny side up with salt and pepper.

It tasted wonderful and no EDC was required, chopsticks was all that was needed, and I finished every last grain of gooey, egg runny rice too, and it’s sitting perfectly well in my stomach this morning
(the best part).

EDC was just for show, as I had it on me at the time. It’s my new favorite, inside the house knife, a perfect size and perfect ergonomics 👍

A belated Valentine's Day dinner in the downstairs dining room at Chez Panisse in Berkeley the other day.

I've eaten at the upstairs Cafe at Chez Panisse (which is cheaper & where it's easier to get a table) a number of times but this was the 1st time that I've eaten in the restaurant & it was special.

Chez Panisse no longer has a Michelin Star rating-- just a Green Star for sustainable "farm to table" food practices -- but it still serves a great meal.

These are stock pics of the dining room. The 1st as viewed from my table in the front alcove. The table being set up in the 2nd photo is where my guest & I sat.

And here's the evening's menu with pics of the meal following in order beginning with the salad:

It was delicious & I also ordered the wine pairing with it.

It was one of those bucket list meals that was worth the price of a high end knife IMO. 😉
