What's that you're eating?

Clean out the freezer Monday. 6lb. ribeye cut off the 15lb. one on Christmas.

Durian!!!

I've got a lot of catching up to do going back 2-3 weeks.

This is the most recent meal that I had at a new to me Hawaiian restaurant in Benicia, CA called "Got Lunch Plate" in a secluded spot away from the main drag next to a park w/a boat launch & a great view of the Carquinez Bridge & strait:

Its a bowl of Loco Moco with dish of macaroni salad & a glass of Modelo on the side.

It was ok but the eggs were over done, not runny. :(

Will remember to ask for "runny" eggs, if & when I go there again but, frankly, I make a better loco moco at home. 🤷‍♂️.

Next up . . . It was a beautiful day. So, I drove my "little red sports car" north on River Road to Al the Wop's in Locke on Easter Day.

The bar was open but the restaurant was closed when I got there. So, I initially ordered an Irish Coffee which was poorly made & then ordered a pint of black coffee enhanced with a very generous pour (courtesy of the bartender) of 2 shots of Kahula Coffee Liqueur.

When the restaurant finally opened I ordered a BLAT -- a Bacon, Lettuce, Avocado & Tomato -- sandwich with a salad on the side to go with the Kahula & Coffee, while getting multiple free refills of coffee prior to and all thru the meal:

I'm never going to order an Irish Coffee anywhere again! It's just Kahula & Coffee for me from now on!! ;)

A quick bite at a Vietnamese spot in the mall before going to see a movie at the AMC . . .

It's a bowl of Shrimp Vermicelli noodles with a couple fried egg rolls & generous serving of shrimp along with a pint of Elysian Star Dust IPA:

More food updates to follow . . .

Catching up again with a few things that I bought to prep & eat at home . . .

A 3# turkey breast that broke down & froze in Nov & just roasted today:

A 12# bone in ham that I bought for 88 cents/# before Easter & that I broke down & froze for later use:

A whole Chinese roast duck, 2# of Chinese BBQ pork & 1# of Chinese roasted pork belly.

Broke down the roast duck & there's still some left in my frig. Portioned out & froze the BBQ pork, most of which is still in the freezer. Cut up & have also eaten most of the pork belly already.

2 whole crabs that I steamed to eat just before 4/15 when CA declared crabbing south of Point Pillar prohibited early due to the "danger" to migrating whales. AFAIK, fisherman can still catch crabs north of Pillar Point at this time.

Saw an episode of America's Test Kitchen which featured a simple recipe for a Southern Black & Asian fusion dish called "Yaka Mein" that I made a week or so ago, which just involves braising a 2-3 #cut of chuck roast in an Asian flavored broth, cutting up the chuck into bite size bits & serving some of the chuck with 1/2 of a boiled egg & sliced green onions over spaghetti noodles.

This recipe is very versatile & you can serve any other protein with it (not just the chuck) & I added some baby bok choy & also made it using roasted pork belly, roast duck & roasted duck. Here are pics of a couple of bowls served with chuck & roasted pork belly:

Looks & tastes better with the roasted pork belly IMO. ;)

I think this catches me up for the past 2-3 weeks . . . more to follow later.

As we travelled home from our amazing weekend food orgy, what better place to stop for lunch than the Traveler’s Alehouse. Started with some really good chowdah (no pic) and some spring rolls (in the background), then had a brisket cheese melt.
