What's the BEST KNIFE DEAL You Ever Got?

Probably doesn't count here, but it was a helluva deal, I got it for free. Won it in a drawing:

Cost the original owner $325 + shipping. 11.25" long overall and .25" thick S30V. Very solid and badass.

(Bumping an old thread, and going to the other end of the "finds" spectrum)

Made two deals at a flea market last weekend.

First, traded a well worn 3" yellow Colonial with stamped scales and $8 for a nice, ivory Delrin handled Frontier three blade Stockman. Nice handles and nice powderhorn shield. I had $3 in the Colonial, so that's $11 in the Frontier.

Second was a $5 purchase of two junkers. One was an Imperial Ranger, black handles, missing two bolsters. If I can find those two bolsters somewhere.... Even if I don't it's a great carbon steel blade work knife.

The other knife was the bargain. A three blade folder, no maker's name, just a model number (5383) on the tang, carbon steel blades. The once beautiful multicolored yellow/orange/burgandy handles were held on only by the center pin, and they were about to fall off. The blades were rusted solid.

Re-attached the handles with 50 minute epoxy, drove the loose pins back in with a tiny drift, clamped them overnight, soaked the blades in 3-in-1, cleaned them up, polished the brass liners, back, and handles. Now it's got good walk and talk, sharp edges, and is pleasant to see.

Anytime I can get that nice of a knife and that much enjoyment over three evenings of work out of a $5 purchase, it's a GREAT knife deal.

I'm pretty sure the maker of your knife was John Primble.

That looks very nice! Especially since it was "free".......

and a special deal on a Kershaw Shallot.......;) (ty TW :D)

Ah, I recall that S-2 deal with a great deal of fondness. I got seven of them and only have one left--the one I use.

I really have to start going to estate sales. I have a lot of friends who hawk them and yard sales, and they're always getting good deals. People are also getting more shrewd, though, and a lot of the good stuff ends up on eBay.

But if you guys find an exceptional deal like the CRKT S-2 for $25, do you tend to get one, or do you tend to buy a bunch like I do? I mean, I end up giving them away for the most part, so it probably ends up being more expensive for me in the long run. On the other hand, giving someone a nice knife like the S-2 is very much appreciated, putting it mildly.

Smokey Mountain has had a lot of good deals on knives and I've bought a number of S&W Homeland Security Tantos (fixed blade knives) for $30 that are now going for $40. S&W has a mediocre reputation on their knife line, but they have a number of very good models, and if you know what you're buying you can get some decent deals.

So far its this one:the SIG TAC Pterodactyl

Got it on the company's sale; it was down something like 80% and is a great knife.

i was able to afford a Gerber Yari II at Sportsman's Warehouse for $75...

it MSRP's () at $221, sells for about $130-$160.

I also got a Buck/Strider ML Spearpoint for $100 at a mall knife shop.

I paid $4 for a spyderco rescue jr. , $3 for a buck 110 with a slightly broken tip (took 5 minutes to fix ), and $5 or a cold steel safekeeper 2 at a flea market on the same day.

REKAT pioneer w/ ATS-34 blade at a local gun shop for $65 two weeks ago. I am pretty sure that is a great deal.

Lets see, 2 knives from a thrift store

1. A 9" blade french chef knife, carbon steel, wood grip, full tang, .39 cents

2. a HEAVY chinese chef knife, carbon steel, wood grip (a little cracked) .60 cents

Both hair splitting sharp, well balanced, a joy to prep food with

A Kershaw left hand mini-Task for $34.99 at SMKW!! I didn't know they were on sale until I walked in and started going over the latest sales. I amediately went to the Kershaw display and picked out a good one, paid for it and ran like all heck in case they changed their minds!

Hi all, 1st post here. Just last weekend I picked up a brand new SOG Twitch II at a local flea market for $20USD. They had 4 and now that I know how good a knife it is, I wish I had bought all of them. Might go back tomorrow and see if they're still there.

I received a flyer from Kellam Knives. Then special discounts indicated a hand made Kelluva 10 form 40% off. This knifewas being sold for $285. With the discount it was $171. I called Kellam to buy one, and was told by Harriet, the owner of Kellam Knives that this was a typo error, and in fact the knife was supposed to be $40 off. Harriet said that she was aware of the mistake but that she would honor the price that was listed. This was a good deal for me. I later bought a couple of Murry Carter kitchen knives from her. In fact I think I will order something from Kellam Knives. They have honor. They are what good business people should all be like. If you want to buy from the best, call Harriet at Kellam. She will treat you right.

I got to Leatherman Juice S2s for k-mart for $3.00 a piece, I didn't know what leatherman was when I bought the knife, but oh well. They had about 5 of them, but I only got two of them. Stupid me.
