What's the craziest thing someone said to you about one of your knives?

Years ago, when I was in court reporting school and was cutting some steno paper to splice together, one woman in the class said, "You do realize that that is a deadly weapon. Why are you carrying a weapon in school?" The knife in question: a Victorinox SAK classic, and I was using the mini-scissors to cut the paper.

Last weekend my sister decided she wanted to take her kids and my kids to the mall. I told my kids to make sure they had their pocket knives with them. My oldest boy, who is 13, had given his knife to my wife cause his shorts didn't have pockets. He changed clothes and now needed his knife. My wife and sister were together in the kitchen talking when my son asked his mom for his pocket knife. My sister replied agahst "WHAT?? Why do YOU need a pocket knife??". My son, not missing a beat, "For cutting stuff". My sister flipped a wig. She stated that NO CHILD was going to be carrying a pocket knife around her. I interrupted her, and reminded her that my three kids all have permission to carry pocket knives. And, they are expected to when ever they leave the house. Me and my crew alway's carry them. She flipped a wig again. "WHAT do you NEED THEM KNIVES FOR". Just like my son, "for cutting stuff". I then asked her if she believed in the Boy Scouts of America. She answered yes. So, I informed her that they believed young boys should always be prepared, and should carry a pocket knife. She walked off in a huff.

Now, I don't know where my folks went wrong with my sister. Cause, I've been packing a pocket knife around since I was about 10. She really flipped out though when she saw my oldest boys knife was a Benchmade, and a little larger than your average slippie. Oh the horror. A 13yr old with a Benchmade................:D

I told someone how much my Umnumzaan cost and his jaw dropped to the ground. Pretty funny to see. :)

Maybe you got all the common sense genes and she missed out?

What the? I've never come across someone that has a problem with a SAK - they are useful for so much and when someone sees you using one they should be noticing how useful the SAK is to you. I guess some people are just friggin' nuts!

The mean old lady came home and said " when did one of our old chairs get hacked to bits in the back yard?"

"ummmmmm ehhh, some where b/t the first drink and the last one?"
Funny how the sauce makes terrible ideas seem really cool.

When I take out say my s90 millie and I am fixing to take apart an elk on the ground I have clients say "hey here use this instead" , {and try to hand me thier form of cheap 8 in hunting knife} "its razor sharp" , they say as I politely refuse . 1 hour later they are standing there with thier with mouths hanging open and they will say something like "now thats a spy what ,I gotta have one of them.

I used to carry a Case 63090 Stockman
with Gray Bone handles.

I was using it one day at work and another employee
asked if he could see it. When I showed it to him he said
"How do you guys afford those?"

Not only was it an inexpensive knife but this guy works
at the same place I do and we are on the same pay scale.

I just told him I saved up my lunch money and left it at that.

Sometimes someone that says that is paying off a car that cost quite a few thousand dollars more than the one you drive - it does the same job as yours but cost much more. But you just don't want to spend hours going through the ways that you spend less than them which allows you the spare money to buy toys like the knife in question. Sometimes that person is a smoker - I don't know how people afford cigarettes!
Quite often the other person would only ever buy a knife that he could afford with that weeks pay check, the idea of saving doesn't enter their head.

It is usually easiest to just give the short answer - "I saved up for a few weeks, then I bought it".

My friend said what do you need that for, My BK2 he was talking about.....I said everything! He thinks that I spent too much.

I had a women ask me if I had a knife on me, I showed her my Gerber AR 2.5 which was all I had on me at the time and she asked if I had anything bigger.

was wearing my bk-11 horizontily on the back of my belt and had someone ask "is that a gun" lol.

I work in an office and I was using my Spyderco Delica 98 to cut the plastic bands that go around the boxes of paper. A female co-worker walks in and sees me doing this. She looked horrified and asked, "Why do you carry such a large knife? I don't think you're supposed to have that here."

Nothing in the regs against carrying a pocket knife. Good thing I didn't have my Military that day.

A previous post reminded me of a trip to Knob Creek. I was carrying a fixed blade on my belt but my shirt was untucked. One of the security comes over and taps me on the shoulder and says, "You're supposed to check your firearms." I must have looked at him like I didn't understand. He pointed to the sheath end that was visible and I pulled my shirt up to reveal a Busse Combat Steel Heart II. He just smiled and said, "Cool." and walked off.
