To begin with, I acknowledge that just about everything I have learned about knifecraft over the years has come from internet posts, mostly in Bladeforums. That said, out of 68 posts so far in this thread, except for maybe 4 or 5 of the cutting chores described, the rest could have been done with anything; Vic Classic, box cutter, the crappiest of Chinese knockoffs, butterknife, key, fingernail etc.
Not sure what to make of this. Either a number of BF subscribed knife guys just so happened at this particular time to have last used their heavy duty blades on frivolous little chores ("Cheez; only a few days earlier I was using my same knife to quarter a moose, defend against pirates, cut through my jammed car door etc., but today I only trimmed off a hangnail"

), or maybe there are way more here who are strictly accumulators than I had thought. That's perfectly okay. I like knives and appreciate good ones too, but since I check in largely for useful knifecraft information -- selection, use, maintenance and so forth -- I am beginning to wonder how much is really authentic, how much is fixated on the object alone, or is in lieu of a social life.
