What's the origin of your forum name?

Synghyn is a gaelic translation of St John, my real names Jon, origional aint it?
Also, my chosen patron saint way back before the seminary got sick of my crap and threw me out :D

And I haven't found a place yet that I couldn't use some minor variation of it at least, so hey, it works.

Who, me...Java? My mother was a hard-core coffee-whore who couldn’t quite kick the habit.

And until I met my real Dad…..

I believed - like Indiana Jones - I was named after the family dog. Mom hooked Java (our pup) on the bean as well. Java (the dog) who inhales gallons of the elixir daily is a true addict but needs a bigger stir-stick….

Oh yeah.....I happen to enjoy all things coffee. Always draws a smile from the baristas at Starbucks when they ask what name to put on my cup.....

:D

I'm of Scandinavian heriatage and always liked Beowulf so I chose Beowulf the Geat. I've been very suprised at how many actually think that I mispelled Great as Geat. I've given up on telling them that the Geats were a tribe in southeren Sweden long ago.

Mine is easy. For the first 4 or 5 years of my knife making all I used to make knives was old giant saw mill saw blades that were made out of L6 steel, get it? :D
Here's a pic of the last one I had.
The bowies I'm holdin in the pic have moose crown handles. I don't make that style knife anymore but man were they nice!

The "Three Guardsmen" consisted of some really awesome frontier Cops. These men of steel were Chris Madsen, Bill Tilghman, & Henry "Heck" Thomas. God bless them!

Best wishes,

I wanted my handle to be a song because I love music. I'm into old school slow jams (70's and 80s), and I had like a list of fifteen or twenty songs that I felt would make a cool forum names. Since our handles represent who we are, I chose Smooth Operator because it was the coolest sounding and most fitting for me.

I was on my second and final Harley Davidson when I joined.

I'm now a recovering HD owner who has seen the error of his ways.

I now own a Kawasaki. :D :)

Not sure, now that I think about it, considering that I like Beethoven more and absolutely adore Strauss. As far as "one hit wonders", nobody beats Offenbach ("Orpheus in the Underworld").

Hmmmm..

I got mine from an accident at work, when I rolled a fire engine on the way to a call. Engine 8. For a while after the accident, they had me driving a ladder truck because they said the outriggers were like training wheels...no mercy!

I like taking leisurely strolls in the fields while thinking up of enticing, lyrical poetry for Hallmark. . . NOT!!!!

My birth name is Patrice. Since I like medieval armour as part as my metalwork addiction, I chose a name that was from around the 12th century in Britannia, where my folks come from.

ZZ Jake is my biker nickname too, Jakes my name and for a long time I had a long ass beard and I listened to ZZ Top a lot, so ZZ Jake evolved from that

I was looking for a good gaming name for LAN parties back in late 99.

At the time, there was a 6-bladed fixed broadhead made by Goldkey-Futura called the "Deadhead".

Most fixed bladed broadheads are 3-4 blades, so a 6 blade broadhead could be considered overkill (for you non-hunters, in archery it's not the number of blades that kills, but the poundage and the location of the shot). Since it was a competitive LAN party, I wanted a name that implied extremes, overkill.

Therefore, to help identify WHAT sort of Deadhead (not to be confused with the stereotype "Deadhead" ;)), I chose Deadhead Archer as my handle. It's stuck with me for a while now.

When I joined here, the name also seemed fitting as a broadhead is also a pointy, sharp object. ;)

I'm no kid - downhill of 60, but as a kid I spent many days in the fields and forests with my trusty Barlow knife. Still like em.
