What's the origin of your forum name?

I always associated the word "Kampfjäger" with German fighter planes, especially of WW2 fame.

My handle is Emanuel, and so is my name. I'm very creative, obviously.:)

I live in Alaska and a good part of my income is from selling ivory to custom knife makers.
excellent...I used to work at a gallery that sold Inuit art and we got our ivory pieces through an outfit named "Ivory Jack," and for a while I would lie and say "ivory merchant" when people asked me what I did...because while in Alaska (and outside of it in non-pc crowds) ivory merchant is a perfectly respectable profession- in the people's republic of illinois most people looked at me like I had said I dealt crack to school children....

I also enjoyed when other coppers would ask why our vans were black and unmarked- to which I would reply "to match our helicopters..."
I love it! I always wondered why the super secret surveillance guys never showed pride in their work with a great big logo on the side of the van! ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha :p

HSO stands for Health and Safety Officer and happens to be the job I've done for over a decade. It's the person in a hazardous waste/materials project responsible for ensuring the safety of other workers studying or cleaning up chemical/radioactive/biological contamination. I'm usually first in and last out and I tell the crews that if you see me running away you might want to follow me. :D

BTW My avatar is a highly processed image of me in full SCBA and kit taken just as I was coming out from the initial exploration of a chem/rad contaminated building.

At the time I created this screen name I owned only one .45 caliber semi-automatic, hence one45auto. ;)

Didn't rammstein write a song, ashes to ashes?

--------------------------------------
Warm body / hot cross
false judgement / cold grave
On the cross I'm lying now
they pound the nails into me
The fire cleanses my soul
and a mouthful of ashes remains
Ashes to ashes
I shall chase you / in ten days
as your shadow / becomes hunted
I shall resurrect
and you will beg for mercy
Then I'll kneel in your face
an put my finger into the
Ashes to ashes
and dust to dust

-----------------------------------------

;) My sig line is another one. It's from a Martina McBride song.

I picked mine from the name of my company, The Crucible Consulting Group.

I tell clients that while Crucible literally means "a vessel of metal or refractory material used for heating metal to high temperatures"; it also metaphorically is a "severe, searching test", and that it can also mean "a place, time or situation characterized by the confluence of powerful intellectual, social, economic or political forces".

All three definitons were applicable for this forum, much to my delight.

Rugby players often aren't bright enough to come up w/ snappy forum handles... it's the repeated kunkushh... conlkkushn... concussions ;)

Brews come from my old hobby of homebrewing my own beer. Back in '98 I won second place in a national homebrew competition in the American Pale Ale category. I haven't brewed in years and I always say someday I will brew again. Still hasn't happened.

Goldtanker is a ten letter word, with no letters repeated, that corresponds to the numbers 1 thru 9 plus 0, which I used (along with others) in my tank company in RVN to send numeric data in emergency situations when using the cumbersome SSI/SOI would be too time consuming. It served us well and has stuck with me all those years.

They get hit in the head sometimes too. :( Uhhh ... like the physical equivalent of spending too much time in Whine & Cheese. :p

I have no earthly idea what any of that means but damn it sounded impressive. :p :D ;)

I imagine he means that he could send numeric data encoded, using G=1, o=2, l=3, d=4, etc., and everyone sending and receiving would find "Goldtanker" an easy cipher to remember.

I was just being a smart ass. I actually did get it. :o :p :D ;)

How about that... My name is not only a mistranslation, but a flat out creation of a brand new word.

Some days it just doesn't pay to get up out of bed.

I would've hoped a western, but hey, it could've been worse I guess. :D

Kampf,
I just googled your handle to see what it comes up with.

ANd I checked the dictionary too.

There's no "Kampfjäger" word in the dictionary, as Tim already said. It's made up, but is used in certain places, especially in regards to some ww2 planes.
The closest word in the dictionary is Kopfjäger, which means head-hunter.
