What's the story behind forum names?

Darn it, this is the second time we've had this thread and still no explanation from TallWingedGoat.

Mine is real hard to figure out too

. My hair all migrated south...so I'm bald, bearded, and grey. The "bald1" is the moniker my sons came up with for a personalized license plate. I rolled it over to the Net as well. seems to fit just fine.

hehehehe, these are getting good.

Well, Cobalt, as obviously, I am fond of the Cobalt base metals.

But the real reason is because I am a carcinogen just like Cobalt and bad for your health, just like Cobalt.

Well my first name is Barton(Bart for short) and somewhere in the eighties, for some strange reason people started callin me Bartman?..But I was actually on this planet first...and my hair sticks straight up in the air, NATURALLY..like Don King, but thicker and straighter..always has, don't need no moose either..are you gettin the picture...

..ah ha ha...Before that it was Black Bart..Theres another story behind that..

hmmm?

I'm named from a stuffed bear I've owned since I was three. He's named after the bear in Don Freeman's 1968 book "Corduroy" (and "A Pocket For Corduroy" in 1978). If you're a parent or a youngish adult, you may be familiar with them.

I've been using "Corduroy" as a callsign in flight sims as long as there have been flight sims, so it seemed natural to carry it to an online name. It's also part of the reason I named my shop "Little Bear Knives."

(Why else would a bear want a pocket?)

Ogre came to me as a very bad typo on my paychecks that took 4 months to fix... Long story... And People took it up as a nick name for me... It is also sometimes mirroring my personality - Gregarious is another nick name, as, you see - I am not, unless I know you fairly well.

I want a Light Saber for Christmas

Mine is a tactical call sign from combat. The six represents command;my RTO would be ghost X-ray.One guy got "Pebbles" after taking an A1-E off the PSP on takeoff.

When I became a member I wanted something knifey sounding and Carver just sort of popped into my head. I really hope Timmy the Talking Toilet chimes in on this one!

When we were young my older brother keeps pronouncing my real name, Jessan, as "tee-tan", so there ...

I received "Blades" while I was in Korea(Kunsan AB, Dec93-Dec94). I carried a few knives back then, and the guys in my shop started calling me "Blades". I never used the nickname, but when I found the forums I brought it out of storage.

Blades

Hmmm, Bald1. If I used my license plate I'd be "Gwnml," another nickname from high school nobody calls me anymore. You figure it out.

My girlfriend has "Swe T 314." I'm gonna have her use that if she ever registers.

Knife Medic because I am a paramedic and knives because that is one of my favorite hobbies. My co-workers have come up with Slash, Crash, Barney, and K-Nife. Later

Yes it's sharp!!!! Now go get the first-aid kit!!!

Contraction for "Shadow Catcher," a Samoan concept for "photographer," my occupation. The "11" is because I have had 11 online server accounts (don't ask.) I actually have a knife nickname. A small number of acquaintances call me "Knifeman," but in this company I will defer to those who are the real article.

My initials. Added piquance...I had the name before Francis Ford Coppolla had my alter ego slaughter Don Vito's family. The difference between the celluloid DC and me....Vito would have never lived to play bocce in America

Jack, I had no idea you were curious.

My Chinese name means to "soar high". High also means tall (like me), the word soar is the character goat + wings. No, I don't actually look like a goat.

No, I was never lost. But I was mighty bewildered one time for three days.

I am an active duty Air Force Chief Master Sergeant so everyone calls me Chief. I have also used Rocket extensively as I work on ICBMs. I heard TimmyTheTalkingToliet explain that he had a potty mouth as a child hence the moniker.

Smoke was an easy name to type on email and remember as my real name is easily forgetable. Yes I am called Smoke in real life too. I can also be called usok, fumee, fumar, etc. However, it means many things to many people and all cultures know what smoke is.

Schlager is being rather nice, I've seen a print of the Schlager blade fights. Actually, the print hangs where I train and the blunt blades did draw a lot of blood during bouts.

Well, basically. Because my name is Adam, my best friend thought it would be cool to call me Adamantium. And soon after it became my full time nick on the X-country and track teams at my old highschool way back in the day.

Sincerely,
Adam

Howdy! RJ are the initials of my Christian and Middle names. 'Talas' is Tagalog, the national language of the Philippines, where I am a missionary, for Sharpness. I figured the other Philippine-based forumites would recognize it. And I was not mistaken.

Titan's been here; Dan - where are you?

we get to what's really important.

Snickersnee: from "snick or snee"; a large knife suitable for either the cut or thrust; a style of knifefighting using cuts and thrusts; a synonym for a knifefight

Multiple meanings, but all working towards the same end. Rather like me, I walk many paths at once, but they all end up the same place. It's a little out-dated too.

Snicker: mocking laughter or smirk

I can also be something of a wise-ass.

My birthname was given to me by my parents without consulting me first. It's an acceptable name. However, it was given to me by two of the weirdest people I have ever known, people I have not had contact with in years, and the name itself has no meaning for me whatsoever. I prefer to go by Snickersnee or Snick. However, I am think of officialy changing it, maybe going with something Spanish. My conversational Spanish needs some brushing up, but I have always felt at home in their culture, most of my friends and loved ones are Hispanic.

Well, if anybody cares, there you go...

I think this is an intresting topic, let's you see a side of people you don`t usualy.
