What's the story behind forum names?

I read the Tolkien books when I was around 13 or so and my favorite character was then and still is now Strider.

There is an older thread with the same topic. For those interested, it may be worthwhile search it out.

All my family uses their first name, then first initial of last name, followed by birthdate. My birthday is april 15,income tax day! Little cash in the kitty for presents then, but it is still better than being born on Christmas.

bruce is easier to type than Bruce Woodbury. BTW my relatives came to the New World from England in 1625, thats only five years after the Mayflower! Anybody's family been here longer? Remember the Mayflower came in 1620 and there were few ships between 1620 and 1625. So why don't all you foreigners go home! "This offer void where prohibited by law, or in the case any of you are Native Americans!"

I heard the word "Stumpy" used one day, and I though it sounded cool, albiet a bit on the derrogatory side, so I chose to go with "Stompy".

Bruce, one of the Mayflower daughters married a Slate, a family already in the country when the Mayflower landed. ( Hint - The Brits didn't send all their prison ships to Australia or Van Demon's land aka Tasmania ).

Hey! Check it out, we got "Billy Bob McWilliams" in the forum!!

Oh, lot of imagination for my name, it's my nickname, with a number (all the other "tobi's" were taken ). Besides, I've been called "tob" since 4th grade (you'd be amazed how bad Tobias gets slaughtered sometimes). Now, I just get called SGT T.
Real boring, isn't it?

Tobii huh? I had a computer game once where you played a dog and a big dinosaur dubbed Tobii plopped his foot down on the dog. There was no way to win the game. Just thought I'd share.

G6, sorry I failed to mention that I also have family that beat the Mayflower here by just a few hundred years, and were so good at conquest that it was part of their name.

And the Bison beat us all here. I am sure we will hear from those with Viking blood to claim their bragging rights. And isn't there evidence that some Pacific Islanders made it here as well?

It's just those Johnny-come-lately puritans that really chap my hide. "Searching for freedom from religious persecution" my multi ethnic rear. At least the Spanish and Portuguese held their heads up and admitted that they came here to take.

Evolution of the species. Brought us all here today, one way or another.

My name is a hold over from my youth, which was largely misspent. As a a young man, I spent 12-14 hours a day, 7 days a week playing pool. Many pool players have nicknames. For example, I knew the "Sailor", who was a black man who always wore white clothing. Hence the "Sailor name. I also knew the "Milkman", "Danny the Mouse", and "Pee Wee." I have know idea where their names came from. I had many many nicknames, most, variations on a theme, but I felt Willieboy would be least offensive for public consumption.

Willieboy

My name is a direct translation of "Kusin Kanel", a nickname which I was given by The Swedish Toy Car & Liquor Association...Weird, ain't it?

When I first got on the net I was very into the SCA (medieval living history/fighting group) so I used my SCA name Marcus on all my internet stuff. It`s also a play on my real name Mark, which is actually my middle name but that`s a different story.
