I carry this one on my keys:

Excellent tool! I just spent the last hour reading about locks. Great skill to learn

Murrays Superior Hair dressing Pomade... makes great tinder box/candle/add to tinder long burn

most of this stuff isn't strange. a can of dehydrated water and an inflatable sheep would be strange!

some things i have that i haven't seen mentioned are a 4-way water key. some faucets on public buildings don't have knobs on them, you need a special wrench to turn it on. after meaning to get one of these for many years i finally got one for the GHB in the truck.

VS-17 signal panel.

travel size baby wipe packs.

just got a new MOLLE 2 bag for the GHB in the truck, so i'll be resorting everything.

Not that strange per se, but a wire clothes hanger. Came in handy more times than I would have thought. My pops used to always have one tucked away when we went out.

I have also heard of the flammable shoe polish and it's uses but haven't tried... again something that the "old timers" always carried, claimed it warded off bugs and the like. Gonna give it a go when I go out again....

I'd love to know how they used it to ward off bugs. Smear it on their skin?!

Not really strange, but I don't read that often - a small notebook and a pencil.

I've heard of that. And I carry one when I'm camping/backpacking. But rarely in daily carry. Actually, never in daily carry. I DO carry a pen, and that suffices. It is rare in daily activities that I'm anywhere that there is not SOMETHING available to write on if I need to. But it IS rare that there is something to write with.

I've got a box nails in my BOB.

If I have to bug out and set up camp for a while, I'd rather use nails whenever I can in place of paracord, to preserve the cord for other tasks.

What item(s) do you carry in your survival kit/pack that you don't typically see listed as a survival kit item?

For me it's probably hand sanitizer. I've had great success using it to start fires and it keeps my hands clean.

I also have a pocket sized version of the US Constitution in my kit.

You carry a copy of your US Constitiution, I carry the section of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms that deals with self-defense, knifes and firearms. I have a copy in my survival kit, in my EDC bag and posted right on the door of my gun/knife cabinet.

condoms... not lubed btw lol.. its to hold water incase someone had no clue why... the idea came from a USMC mountaineering survival kit

Here's some of the items I keep in my EDC gear:
spare contact lenses, contact solution, lens carrying case (to store the lenses when not wearing them), travel size wet wipes in resealable pouch, mini grappling hook, nail clipper, condoms, copies of driver's permit, passport, small measuring tape, face masks (got from hospital where my sis in law works). There are other "odd" items but I can't think of them at the moment.

Here are some crappy pics for reference. Not all items listed above are shown though as I keep stuff in various small pouches.
Top pic includes knife sharpener, spare CR123 and CR2 batteries for my Fenix PD20 and NiteCore EZ CR2 LED lights, Peanut lighter, Fisher Space Pen, Sharpie blue fine tip marker, condoms, Tums, contacts, contact drops, small vial of contact solution, alcohol wipes, small sewing kit for repairs.

I don't carry both Leatherman Waves, I carry the new Wave 2 on the right but kept the Wave 1 in the pic for reference.
Bottom right pouch has my iPhone USB car charger adapter, AC adapter, USB cable, mini headphone splitter jack, headphone jack for airplanes, CountyComm Orange shell LED, Sony 8Gb and Sandisk 4Gb Cruzer Flash drives (I keep a Super Talent 16Gb Flash drive on my keychain in back pocket at all times - see bottom pic).

The baby blue container is specifically made for carrying contact lens supplies and looks like a lady's make-up compact, complete with a small mirror for putting in your contacts.
The cream colored pouch beside the granola bar holds 2 condoms.
The cologne is for if I get lucky! (LOL kidding).
The white card at the bottom right is dental floss, beside that is the travel nail clipper and tick tweezers on an S-biner.
The Glade air freshener is for the after-effects of a bad curry!

100,00 Iraqi Dinar. It was from a E&E kit I carried on my last tour in Iraq last year. Oh, and 100,000 Dinar is like $75 USD so not a lot of money.

I also occasionally carry instant mashed potatoes in my Laserna pack, but keep them regularly in my vehicle packs (of course with other food items).

Just in case myself or one of my family members get stranded due to car problems, the spuds can easily be made if they are needed (water and a heating unit...Jet Boil, Esbit stove, etc).

I've actually poured the boiling water directly into the potato pouch and it worked fine. Although the pouch itself was hot, it worked fine if that's all you've got.

Along the lines of the lock pick set....learn how to make a shim for padlocks. I watched more than a few videos on making a shim out of an aluminum can. I will never feel secure with a padlock again....lol Great skill though in an SHTF situation. I just made a couple that I have in my different bags.
