Whats with all this Chinese (or Taiwanese) crap?

Anybody that just lumps Taiwan in with China is being racist. They are not the same country (yet) and have completely different political systems.

I love when I see a nice frame lock that I might be interested in, then I go to look into the specs and guess what? Either 8CR13MOV or 8CR14MOV steel, stainless handles, and made in China, or Taiwan. Im just looking for a Ti frame lock that is under 200. :p ( I understand that people have budgets or whatever, but there is just so damn many of them.

Those were just a few USA made, TI scaled blades with good blade steel that I found on one supporting site - I am sure you can find more if you look. They are out there!

Anyone who says Chinese and Taiwanese knives are crap is completely uninformed on the subject. That is far too broad of a generalization.

My favorite knives right now are american made... Curtiss f3, my Sebenza 25, and my S110V PM2, which is almost always in my pocket it seems, however, that does not mean all the stuff coming out of China is "crap." I will give one example, the Reate Hills, which can be bought for $180, is FAR more knife than it's price leads on. It has similar build to any of the "Mid-Tech" knives you see for $400+ on the exchange here and a beautiful, UNIQUE design. David Deng is making great products. Do we lump him in to this political argument because he was born in China and is a knife nut rather than being from the West? Just a thought... good morning all.

I agree, except I would call it being ignorant. It's similar to saying that all knives manufactured in any Asian countries are inferior to those made in the U.S. and other Western countries.

I lived in Taiwan for close to a decade; there are vast differences between it and mainland China. Also, Taiwan began stepping up the quality of its knife production for American-based companies back in the '90s, and have now reached a level on par with the best American manufacturing. Many of the quality Taiwan-made knives are actually better than most U.S.-made knives I've handled (CRK is an exception), and way better than any of the German-made production knives of recent years that I've ever handled.

Wtf? My integrity is not in question because I buy American whenever possible but also own an iphone. My integrity is not in question because I hate outsourcing but also live in the real world where i simply cannot afford $400 US made work pants. Get off your high horse.

I apologize to the OP and anyone offended for the integrity crack, it was a knee jerk comment and uncalled for. :o That being said, there's nothing wrong with the buy USA philosophy as long as you acknowledge that you shouldn't condemn an entire country's manufacturing ability because of 1 or a 100 companies operating under sketchy business models, condemn and boycotts the companies that do. That's hard to do too because in the same building/factories out there that make licenced products legitimately for manufacturers here, they also make their knock offs and clones sometimes using the same equipment, just with cheaper materials and less stringent QC procedures.

Again, apologies for the integrity comment, I don't know you or the OP and I can't make the presume to make a comment like that with what little I know. Have a good one.

The OP mentions wanting a TI frame lock that has good steel not 8cr13mov I personally can't think of any ti frame locks that have 8cr13mov or any other budget Chinese steel is he maybe thinking of stainless steel framelocks? Usually a knife with a Ti handle will at the minimum have D2 which although not expensive is a very good performer. If he's still around maybe some examples of the knives he's looking at would be helpful.

Comments were tl;dr. ZT 0808 is a ti frame lock with s35vn and right at $200. Great little knife and fun flipper.

There are MANY recommendations for great, US made TI frame locks under $200 here in this thread, as well as plenty of proof that China ≠ Crap. I would say the job is done here. It's a great time to be a knife nut, with so many great knives available from so many places.

Maybe he doesn't like the persvasive counterfeit industry in China. Maybe he doesn't like buying items produced with slave labor.

China also is not a race and your assumption that he is racist is in itself racist because you have no idea what race he is. Are there no libtard knife boards for you to troll?

The whole goal of this thread was to express my frustration with seeing a nice looking design and then finding out it is a 30 dollar chinese made blade. I have no issues with chinese blades as 3 years ago the majority of my collection was chinese blades. I have used, abused, and broken many chinese and taiwanese blades. I apologize if anyone took my post as racist or whatever, but i was just trying to express my frustration in that process. I prefer USA made blades (quality, in most cases atleast, supporting smaller companies, etc) but I have nothing against chinese blades, its just I would prefer in most cases, to buy USA.

I was saying that Ive seen a lot of frame locks that I assume are titanium, then when I look into the specs I find 8cr13mov with stainless handles. I wasn't saying that I have seen any ti frame locks with 8cr. Hope that clears some things up.

The price will be a dead giveaway too.
