Business isn't personal.

99% of the knife market uses cheap(er) knives with little to no cares or understanding of materials used; big box stores, flea markets, etc...

Manufacturers are in business to sell, many are happy to cater to the 99% cutting costs wherever applicable, including overseas production.
It's really not rocket science, but economic basics.

Well, I'm a single father living on a limited income. We all have problems. And mine is I refuse to keep paying top dollar for American knives and compromising on the designs I actually want simply because I cant afford American knives that actually produce the knives I want to buy. We are talking about a luxury item that accounts for a tiny fraction of my overall spending. Its the one area of my life (my hobbies) where I am doing it for me and me alone so I am going to be selfish and buy what I want from the people I can afford to buy it from. If buying a knife from china means my daughter gets better food, better clothes and a better education then I am going to choose that over worrying about how my miniscule knife hobby is going to effect non related manufacturing jobs in America.

This is fine, family first and foremost. I just assume anyone on this site, especially with over 7,000 posts would of moved on, or are trying to move on from Chinese made knives and not consider the knife hobby miniscule. Im just letting the people that are confused on the high pricing with American made knives. The workers that make the knives need to make enough to support their families. This comes at a price for the cost of living in this country and for the Company to run. I am willing to budget myself for a month to buy a proven USA product. Then have a quality tool that will last a lifetime and a great lifetime warranty on top of that. I also like the look of USA on the side of the blade. Spyderco Taiwan made knives are awesome blades, but can also be pricey. I wish you and your family all the best

Then in my case you assume wrong. I used to only buy american knives. But then china started making knives better than most usa made factories and at a price that is 30-50% less than a similar knife in he states would cost. Even if money was no concern of mine i would still be looking at chinese knives as they really are making some amazing folders at any price. They have access to the same materials and the machining is amazing. Much more intricate than anything im seeing produced here unless its a full on custom. Even if i win the lottery most of my knives would be russian or chinese. Im not going to buy a knife that i dont like just because its made in america. I go where the quality and intricacy is high. And its just a bonus that the prices are low. And i still have a quality tool that will last a lifetime. Warranties im not very concerned about.

China is not a manufacturer, it's a country with a government, a unique culture, language(s), food, and people who do all sorts of different things. China has its very own doctors, chefs, teachers, schools, carpenters, truck drivers, factory workers, good people and bad people, just like every other country. China doesn't make anything, manufacturers make things in factories. There are many manufacturers in China with factories which contract out to many different companies to make lots of different things. Some do it well, some do it okay, some kinda suck, and some really suck just like everywhere else.

Yes its cheaper...they pay their worker/slaves/kids in rice and the workers are humble with this because this is all they are allowed to know, fact......USA..... to each their own

I think the concept that there are very well made Chinese knives available has been well established here in this thread. However, the last couple of pages of this thread have drifted into the political realm. Those with paid memberships may continue the political side of the topic in the Political Forum. Meanwhile, this thread in General is closed.
