Cmon we all know we have that one knife where acertain situation comes up that we would rather use it than some of our more treasured knives. Mine used to be my Kershaw Freefall but since gifting it to my brother in law its now my vg10 Spyderco Stretch

Kershaw Rake.

I love beating the snot out of that d2/14c28n composite blade. Keep waiting for that knife to break. It hasn't.....yet.

My Emerson CQC-15. I find the thumb-disc opener to be excellent when wearing gloves. The position and knurling allow the knife to be opened very easily, even with insulated leather work gloves on.

That, and I consider every scratch and square mm of scuffed G10 to be marks of pride on a knife that is meant to be used.

Though my Manixes and PM2 aren't far behind.

I've got a monster Ka-Bar folder I got as a "show special" at Blade. It rides in my truck tool box.

ZT 0566BWCF can take anything thrown at it. A number of my others could as well but I don't chance if I know ahead of time that it will real hard use.

Too many years ago than I care to remember I asked the great Canadian master smith Wally hayes to make me a version of his big camp knife that got top rating in a massive camp knife comparison in one of the old knife magazines. maybe it was Knives Illustrated. Anyway, I told him i wanted to use it as my main user for canoe trips and light chopping. he said I'd better put it away and he made me a cheap(er) beater out of O1 chisel grind and cord wrapped. I've beaten the hell out of that thing and despite the scars it just won't quit. It's so liberating to be able to beat the crap out of a knife and nurse it back to top shape with a minimum of care.

Spyderco Pacific Salt Pe. Has seen more rough use than my tougher knives because I carry it at work daily.

i can't call any of my modern lockers "beaters" except a 1980s gerber bolt action. my spydeys and BM's are all honed to split hair and cut through paper like air. this is my beater:

4 inches closed, with 1095 blades. and if the cutting's too tough, i go to it's bigger brother:

4 1/2 inches closed, with tough blades and brutish back springs that make you think of bear traps and the like.

I totally Agee. I understand to an extent the guys you see selling a knives that has never seen pocket time, but like you said, a knife is a tool that wants to be used. Sure there may come tasks that are know will ruin a knife so I get something more suitable. Just can't stand the people who overly baby something that was meant to be used hard
