What's your beater knife?

Benchmade 300. Its just kind of ugly, so i use it for ugly jobs. Axis is rock solid, and the whole knife is pretty thick...

I do the same. The 300 is ugly as sin, but it cuts well and is tough as nails. I used it to rip all the carpet out of my new house (cutting, prying up staples, etc) and it did great.

Brous Bionic. This knife sucked. Had to do major grinding, sanding and polishing to get it working properly. Did so much work to get it to function to my standards that I had to make it uniquely mine by sanding down the scales. Maybe looks a little mall ratty, but it's now on my beater rotation. Don't care what happens to it.

If i KNOW i'm gonna be doing harder use work and will be putting the knife through some abuse, i'll grab my ESEE 3 or Candiru depending on how much knife i need. No reason to straight up abuse a good folder as they aren't really designed to be beaten up on.

All of them. Why else would I spend hard earned money on high performance gear? I don't do stupid stuff but I'm going to put them through their paces and nothing is spared because it's too pretty.

Yeah, I don't really have a "beater" knife per se. I use my SAK Huntsman more than any other (by far really), but when I'm making a fire, whittling or anything beyond what I'd try with my Huntsman, I reach for my field knife - a custom from Bryan Breeden.

Actually, I'm saving my pennies to buy an EnZo Trapper in O1 for the whittling and smaller "bushcrafty" projects.

I guess you could say that my Victorinox Adventurer SAK is my beater knife. It is also my EDC among others. I keep spares available if I ruin one. I also use my CRKT Razels as work knives. If I need to pry heavily, I use a pry bar or a tool intended for prying. Yeah, I have broken screw drivers prying stuff. Normally use something a bit heavier duty, but sometimes the something may not be available or I may misjudge the tool needed.

This. My Military isn't pretty, but it is a solid quality tool. It's not expensive but did cost a day's wages. Makes a great work knife for me.

Same for my Para 2 and Manix 2.

Woah woah woah....
Hold on a second.
Where the heck are all of the pictures!

Poor cell phone pics...

Only had it three months so far. Scratched clip, a few scuff marks and scratches on the blade.Did manage to spring the clip out 45 degrees. Just took it off, bent it back into shape, put it back, tightened the pivot back to where I like it.

Great working knife. :)

That hits home with me, as well. I won't buy a knife if I wouldn't use it. My preference of using the Esquire as a tape buster is functional-- I don't have gunk or sticky junk all over my folders when I use them for cardboard or plastic. Having said that, I don't pause if my cardboard cutting passes through tape along the way. It's not problematic to remove tape residue, I just don't want to do that during my work day.

I only "baby" one of my knives, a LionSteel Opera Cocobolo. Everything else sees appropriate use. Most beat up knife is a SOG Seal Pup.

M390 military does everything for me lately.

If I need a fixed blade it's my bark river Canadian special. I should have taken some before pictures, but I just received it back from a spa treatment. The blade was scratched to hell and the old handles were coming off. They refinished the blade and put on a beautiful new set of ironwood burl scales (with Corby bolts instead of pins) for the cost of shipping. Looking forward to putting her back to work!

S90V Para 2

Of course your beater knife would happen to be a PM 2...I wouldn't have expected anything else of you, Ron. ;)

Your feelings regarding the S90V steel, please.

+1

Spyderco Military- one of my all time favorite knives! Did you put together this configuration (M390/Camo)?

Sure did Kelama. I had to have tip up but couldn't bear to drill into that beautiful CF. Stock handles are on their way to a new owner.

I'm very glad Clanton prefers the PM2, I wouldn't have been able to afford an m390 military without trading for his user. Thanks again for that brother!

I'm surprised. I love my Bionic. I do use it a lot, and it has been a great knife. I know the edges on the jimping and flipper are sharp for some, and they have been removed or softened with the 2.0 iteration. For my calloused diabetic fingers, the jimping and flipper pose no issues. The pocket clip sucks. That one screw is always coming loose, even with loctite.

I have noticed that the bearings feel like they have some grit in them now, but I have used the knife hard and with messy and gritty stuff. Will probably clean it sometime this week. Needs to be sharpened as well.
