What's your dream 5-7" wilderness blade?

I have been giving this topic a lot of thought lately.

Though I have many fine knives in this category, my search for just the right wilderness knife continues.

Recently I took stock of the features that I find desirable in this type of knife; being a big guy I like a good size blade, a drop point with a decent point, some belly and a slight recurve fit my style, and a contoured handle with an integral guard.

It will feature a full convex geometry suitable for chopping with a thinner edge just in front of the ricasso for more delicate tasks.

I am currently working on crafting a blade to meet my perceived needs.

Here’s a drawing of the blade that I have started to grind.

that looks very nice big mike.. that's a great all around design..

i bet that's going to make a great companion.... who do you plan on making it for you???

Big Mike, that is a very elegant and succinct design. What would the specs be?

Approx 12” overall with a 7” blade and full tang construction.

The steel is 3/16” thick A2 tool steel.

That's a really neat design, good work. Very streamlined. I might prefer a 7.5 or 8" blade, for my tastes.

You need to get someone to produce it! :D

Welll.... I like my Blackjack Grunt a LOT...
But not as much as the Gossman PSKsr or WTK...

But my dream 6" blade.... Probably a Gossman 6" Tusker or a BRKT Gamekeeper II or a RC-6p or a.... oh hell I don't know, just give me one of each :D

I recently got a good deal on a Gameskeeper II,

…but did not care for the huge freakin’ ricasso.

I saw a longer cutting edge with a slight recurve hiding in there,

…and decided to free my vision.

I’m pretty happy with the fruits of my labor. :D

Nice Design!
The only thing I'd suggest is moving your pins and lanyard hole positions a little.
Maybe move the first pin further forward?
The lanyard hole looks a little close to the edge of the tang, not much scale material outside it if you know what i mean!
Hope that makes sense!

Agreed.

The pins (location and number) and lanyard hole position are still up in the air.

The holes shown on the drawing are actual pre-existing holes in bar of A2 I’m using;

…it was a design consideration being that they needed to get covered by the scales.

If I had to pick one other then my Tusker, it would be a Fehrman First Strike.

Nice work Big Mike! Your design looks great. As of right now, my BRK&T aurora is usually by my side, but I ended up drawing out a knife and actually just got my first image of it today.

Here is my drawing.
