What's your EDC weight limit?

Yes, I also cannot carry a knife over 36 pounds. But under that is perfectly acceptable.

Man, I'm glad I'm not the only one. Sometimes my friends make fun of me for it... "Man, you're just like that nutnfancy guy, always whining about the weight. Why don't you just man up and carry this 38lb knife, it's not that much over your limit!"

Still, I stick to my guns. It's all about personal preference, right?

I tend to wear loose comfortable clothes, so weight is a factor for me. If a knife is heavy (which I mostly judge by how it feels clipped to my pocket in shorts or sweats, but usually comes out to 4+ oz), I will end up not carrying it. Bulk is an issue too. I really like light, thin knives that still have near 3" blades. My favorite EDCs are the BM Ritter grip with cuscadi scales (makes the knife thinner), BM 13960 which is only 2.2 oz with a 3.25" blade, the CRKT Eros (3" blade and 1.3 ounce weight), and my UKPK (UK legal). I did EDC a BM 710 in Korea, which was kind of weighty, but the thinness and very even weight distribution made up for the heavy weight. I still use the same size knives at work, but I end up carrying more than one, so the light weight/low bulk makes that easier.

Generally 4.5 - 5 ounces is the upper limit range I'd prefer to stay within. The heavier the knife, usually, the bulkier it is--there are some notable exceptions though.

No weight limit, suspenders solved that problem long ago. I can EDC anything needed for the activities of the day.

I prefer IWB carry -- heaven help me if I ever find a knife big enough to break my belt... :D

For a folder I prefer 5oz or less. For a multitool, 8oz. I may have to increase the weight limit on folders as I'm considering getting a ZT 0561 when available.

The weight of a knife is insignificant. Hell, even if it weighed as much as your loaded gun, it's still not too heavy to carry. What does a man weigh? 100 lbs, or three times that. The difference between 3 ozs and 33 ozs is negligible. If you're that worried, lose one pound, then you will be strong enough to carry one additional pound of knives. Repeat as necessary so you can carry a spare battery for your flashlight.

:thumbup:This is a very good point. I have often wondered what hunters who complain about rifle weight plan to do with a 200lb deer, or 700lb elk.

I wear jeans and a belt every time I leave the house so as long as it fits my pocket I don't think about weight, I even like framelocks because of the hefty feel of the steel handle. My most carried lockers are a ZT 0300 and CS Spartan.

^^^^ +1 ^^^^

I completely agree with the above post!:)

But I can understand the lightweight carry, as different people like different things in their carry.

I like to keep my EDCs under around 6 oz., but for the right knife, I'll go heavier ... pretty much what all have said here - YMMV, everyone carries differently, dresses differently, and has different perceptions / likes / dislikes ... there is something to be said for a solid, heavy knife ...

I wear a belt and jeans. I keep a Manix 2 XL and iPhone 4 in my pocket. Dont even notice them.

I think shape and size are more important than weight. If whatever you're carrying stabs you in your leg, then you notice :0) I think my car keys have poked me more than my knives ever have. I'm sure I'd notice a knife weighing in at one Pood though :0)

Mine is 8oz. If not mistaken. Mine is ZT301 & even though its by far my heaviest knife it doesnt seem that heavy i actually dont notice it. And when i use it the weight makes me feel more scure that its not going to snap in half! Feels built to do about anything.

Well -- after carrying my Perrin PPT for a week, I can officially raise the ceiling to at least 5.3 ounces... :)

No weight limit here. In fact, I'd rather carry a katana on my back as long as the law will allow it.

I am 6-1. When i was 185lb., i carried a .38 S&W IWB and a 4" stockman with a folding hunter on my belt. Now that i am 240lb. I cant get the revolver in my pants, and more than 4oz. of knife sags my jeans rapidly, causing the dreaded "bike rack syndrome". I been carrying everything imaginable, for every reason imaginable, for 50 years. I have concluded that body shape and clothing material/design have a huge bearing on weight/size limit.

Zombie thread! Sorry for the bump but wanted to discuss this topic and didn't see anything newer.

As for me I have two distinct EDC needs, office and outside of work. For the office I typically like to stay under 3 oz and a 4 inch handle as I like to sometimes slip it into my shirt pocket. Outside of work I have no set limit but definitely prefer under 4 inch blade / 6 ounces.

Do you guys factor in weight when purchasing a new knife, especially for edc?
