I've thought of ordering one of the bone stag, but I hardly need another one in this pattern. Not as if that ever stopped me before. I don't think there is any doubt as to whose design these stockman were patterned after. The lines on the blades look pretty good.

I almost bought one of those in red bone. I thought those were the "cigar box" Schrades. I'm glad I never pulled the trigger.

Thanks for that info, Rusty and Hal. Except for the collector issue, I see no reason not to buy one if the price is right. I won't, because I don't need another EDC, but it looks like it could be a nice little carry knife. I feel at least a little friendly towards any US maker.

This Schrade/N.Y. 855 is absolutely mint with some of the most crisp blade action ever. Another sub $20 'vintage' Schrade knife, showing there are still excellent deals 'out there'.

Good Job Roland!! The 855 is a nice size stockman, I really like the shape of the main blade on that model.

It has "U.S.A." on the tang...is that B.S.?

No, made by Bear and son IIRC.

While linking to active auctions is not allowed, it didn't take long to find a couple cheaper and I didn't even try that hard.

Like Trailhawk says, you never see these start for less than 39.99 and they are always overpriced. I am 99 percent sure that is a Taylor and was made by Bear and son AFTER the close of the plant in 2004.

I reserve the right to be wrong since I was wrong once. lol

How do you do it Roland? Someday I'll win one.

Thanks. I'm not interested now that I know Taylor had to do with its creation.

"How do you do it Roland?"
by spending way too much time on ebay. some evenings i notice that ALL knives are going well below usual selling prices, as if most of the regular knife buyers are not shopping that evening. then i really search for Schrades, and snipe.

I have one. it's very good, although heresy to state so in this forum.
i got one of the first run i think. had never seen that Taylor Schrade before. opening bid was $0.01, so i bid. but nobody else did. then the seller got me for $19.99 shipping.
many of the knives coming out of China now (2010) are of very high quality, but that does not apply to the China Schrade folders. The Fixed Blades are much better
My China BT01 is a well made, balanced, strong, sharp knife.
Of the USA marked ones i have 2 Schrade+ XT1B
and a Schrade/Imperial M-7S Survival Knife with box, sheath, fire starter, saw and compass.
the other China Schrade i have is an XT2B.
The China BT01 is the "most knife" and best of the bunch.
The XTBs all have the same ballistic nylon sheath, made in China, even with the USA marked knives.
i wonder if these XT survival type knives weren't imported right from the beginning, (i.e. well pre 2004)
hopefully a more 'senior' member may be able to answer this.
i think i have more of these somewhere in the "pile of 4000".
