I have a special fondness for Schrade hunters. You will really like that one. It is even more special when it is a gift.

Dave, I think the LK initials on the knife may of been done by Linda Karst, she is one of the premier Scrimshanders around. If that is the case that is a very nice find indeed.
Well done.

just won this on the bay. looked at it hard and figured it was not as bad as it looked. most everyone else apparently passed. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150484659567&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
by the look of it i thought it was just something on the blade instead of rust and have just got it in and was mostly right. will try using oil and steel wool to start off with and will keep adding photos of my progress. i think it just need TLC which all knives do!

You can pull a decent knife out of there. SOS pads would help. Theres something in the soap.I'll use one of my knives to scrape the rust off if I encounter rust like that.

Found it today at a gun show. No rust or stains and in excellent condition. The sheath needs cleaning and maybe redying but nothing else wrong with sheath. Paid $30.00. Anyone know if this was a good price.

Nice price for an 885UH!! As you know they can fetch far more than that! Good buy!

Got this one in a couple of weeks ago. New in tube.

I've never seen a Schrade Folding Hunter with tube packaging.
Approximately when were these tubes replaced by boxes ?

They discontinued the 225H in 1975, and the 225 in 1978. The H stands for Lanyard (H)ole. I agree it is rare to see the big tube, and even more so to see one with the paperwork. That being said, I've never seen a 225 in a box, or packaged with a sheath either.

A year or so ago I saw a 225 or a 225H for sale on ebay with straight sided sheath (but different than the ones I showed above) and BOX. It all looked authentic. I wish I had bid on it.

More pics of the tube and paperwork. The seller had/has a generic shot of the knife along with incorrect "Old Timer" paperwork and a coin. His starting bid was 45.00 and that is what I got it for.

He had four or five more when I bought this one. According to the seller, they came out of an old gas station and were still in a shipping container of some sort.

If I had the means, I'd buy them all.

In that last shot, you can see where the dye from the Delrin stained the plastic over all those years. These are great knives with a real solid build and good steel that hones up nicely. Real workhorses.

I'll bet it was a good looking package. Wonder if it was a Walden? The 225 goes way back.

Here is a couple of before and after pictures of my latest Imperial. It is a Frontier 4322 Two blade Dogleg Jack.

Peach seed bone handles, maybe a bit faded. Shows very little use, good snap, still very sharp. Pinned shield. Tarnish not as bad as pics indicate. Still has original lustre. No pattern stamp on back of master blade. Older style with clip, spey, and pen blades, all stamped SCHRADE / WALDEN / N.Y.
