It is a sheath for a Vietnam era pilot's survival knife. Camillus or Ontario probably made the sheath.

The sheath for my Ontario Jet Pilot's knife has 5 rivets per side and a metal backing plate that folds over onto the front side of the sheath at the tip end. The pictured sheath has a different number and arrangement of rivets.
Military specs mean that the Camillus sheath should be identical to the Ontario one.
However there could be more to this than what i know.

Sheaths for pilots need to be different sometimes than for regular purposes. Sometimes they don't get it right the first time and sometimes it's all in the rivets. The Puma "Automesser" or "Car Knife" is a perfect example. These heavy knives were cutting the sheaths when West German pilots were pulling extreme "G'"s so Puma issued a special edition to them with loads of rivets.

I really like pre-1991 Puma's too (don't shoot me! lol) and the site I link is a top-notch resource. It's in German but you can use Babblefish or Google to translate. Of course the great pics tell the story too. Link showing all the different versions: http://www.pumahunter.de/page5.php

If the RCMP found an Automesser installed on your dash I don't think they would be too impressed lol Those were the days...

p.s. to Vanguard41xx: "Charlie Don't Surf!!!" Classic character for Duvall :thumbup:

Ed, thanks, interesting link. For the Camillus Pilots knife sheath it looks like all they did was move the grip strap. The 5 rivets per side and 1 at the tip i think is standard for military issue Jet Pilot's knife. However i do not specifically collect these so it's opinion rather than fact. The nicest one i have i bought from Mike Silvey who wrote the book on these.

I recently picked this up off the bay. Looks like someone tried to customize and never finished it. i'm pretty impressed with how well he has kept the symmetry on the two sides. It just needs to be polished up. Kind of neat to me.

Dave that is a nice re-handle job. I'm waiting to se the after clean up pics. I usually rub a small amount of mineral oil into the stag to bring up the colors a bit.

Actually, Roland, it's one of the original staglon LB7's. Whoever did it just reshaped the handles, including the original staglon.

Wow, this Staglon now really does look like Stag ! Get out your Uncle Henrys, get your grinder, improve the handles !
It could catch on because it really does look good.

Looks like he reshaped the bolsters too. I bet it'll be a real looker after you finish polishing it. ;)

Yeah, and its a great job on the bolsters. I want it finished and may send it out rather than mess it up myself.

Nice find Dave not an unattractive LB at all!! That should come up looking mighty fine.

actually it is not a LB7 staglon those all had 4 pins. it is a nice looking knife though and a good job done on it to get all the fit just right.

G'day,i have 2 staglon lb7's,one is a 3 pin the other a 4 pin, both un-used but unsure of the history.Nice lines on that one Dave,it should come up a treat once finished

Great to "see" a new face, Aussie! Greetings and Welcome! I am sure the lockback fans would like to see your 3 pin. I thought the staglons were called LB 8.

I think I am reading LB7 right there on the blade... although that is a later LB7 stamp usually found with rosewood handles. The 4 pinners had the old fashioned SCHRADE+ USA stamp.

Thanks Tongue,
Thawk, the 3 pin i have is stamped Uncle Henry over schrade + over lb7 USA , the 4 pin reads schrade + over usa lb7.
I also have 4 lb8's in staglon and have used one as an edc (when ashore) since the late '80s.As i work as a merchant seaman and currently at sea i can't upload any photo's till i get home mid december.I would like to take this opportunity to thank all you schrade collectors for sharing your immense wealth of information,it is a big help to us "newbies".
