What's your latest Schrade? END DATE 8/12

Here are some old ones, one a bit of a nostalgic relic.
Some of the indicators that they are old, is the jigging style, the peened pins, and the arched Schrade (over) Cut Co stamp. Before WW I, IMO.

The Buffalo Cut jack is getting used up, but it is a tribute to its parent company (Schrade in Case you hadn't noticed:D!), that the springs are still crisp and snappy after all these years of use! And the Schrade HJ operates like new as well!

I grew up in Buffalo NY, from birth in 1944, and still have family there. Buffalo Wholesale Hardware was established in 1903, (same as Schrade!), but I don't know when they folded.

Charlie, as always, super nice knives and old 2 blade Jacks are my favorite pattern. BUT---- Where do you find all these great oldies ???
o.k., so i don't really expect you to tell us, the drooling mob; but without revealing any secrets, what percentage come from ebay ?
roland,(the other Canuck, eh)

Roland, some come from AAPK's site, some from old contacts, some from Ebay. The fellow that found the HJs for me has been hunting them for 5-6 years for me, in Kentucky!
I got half a dozen beauties from a guy in Rhode Island over the years (he's very particular!) ! It's who ya know I guess!

"It's who ya know I guess! " Great, but you are the only contact to these knives that i know !
encouraged by pics of your fine knives, i won a nice bone Cut. Co. Barehead Jack (2253 ??) yesterday. i'll post pics here instead of BRL looking for honest assesment, not accolades.

Collecting has been a little slow lately. I picked up this Craftsman 9554, a split spring whittler:

Had never seen this version until recently, with Uncle Henry style handles. Not sure when this one was made, but likely in the 60's by Schrade Walden. The slanted delrin grain on the back side is similar to the early 897UH handles.

And a Schrade Walden SS700 Melon knive, with a swell center, and MOTS handles. Schrade called theirs Marine Pearl. Not sure who Joe Silva is, and I can only guess at his zip code.

Good time of year to try it out on some Rocky Ford cantaloupes.

Nice whittler, Hal. That's a new one on me, too!

Great finds Hal! I like the "804";):D

Here's my lastest Schrade Cut. Co. An " unofficial " scout knife that I found at the Queen show in Titusville this week. I couldn't wait to get back to the hotel and call Charlie, since I stayed with his former room mate, and this might had been on it's way to Vancouver under different circumstances.

I picked up a Press Button Knife Co. ''Victor'' as well, but that will have to wait for another photo op.

That scout is nice.

I have yet to bump into any Schrade scout patterns in my travels.:grumpy:

re: Joe Silva:
Going under the assumption that it was the name of a farm, I googled "Joe Silva Farms" and came up with one in Gustine, CA. A winery and a farm, although it does not say what crops they grow (other than grapes, lol) Took the phone number and the Gustine Area Code, (209), but nothing. could have changed over the years.
I have way too much time on my hands...lol

Hey Fran, that is indeed my knife!! I'd recognize it anywhere!!

Greed aside, that's a real nice one, worth way more than I thought. I had visions of corrosion when you described it. It's a beauty!!!!!!!!

Excellent score Fran!! Looks like a worthwhile trip just with that knife alone:thumbup::thumbup:

I think you need to fill us homebound workaholics in on the 'ole trip;)

I had one like that that I gave to my brother. I'm still trying to find a way to fenagle it back.

got this off ebay today. and it looks better than the photo. real tight and crisp. i now have the LB 1 and am being shipped the LB 3, the LB 5, LB 7 and LB 8. Not sure if i will be able to get the LB 2 i have only seen one and it went for way too high.

One of the arts of Ebay purchasing is being able to determine when a crappy picture = a great knife. Sometimes a low bid is a good gamble. Don't leave out the LB4 on your wish list. It's harder to get than the LB2, especially on Ebay.

Carbon 858 OT, it's used, but it's more new than used. Clip blade has some pretty bad scratches in it, but I think I can live with it.

Here is a 209 "Lunker," appearing in the Schrade catalogs only in 1972 and 1973, to my knowledge. It is in basically new condition, but the sheath needs a little cleaning and dressing. Although the knife is rare, I suspect the sheath is more so. Rich Langston has something to say about these knives and their close kin by Ulster in an old thread: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=412636&highlight=209

Love seeing that Lunker TongueRiver. Until you get one in hand, it is hard to tell how long that knife really is. Really nice to see the sheath with the Schrade Walden name on it. Well done!
