I have the exact same set. The guy I got mine from said they were given to him as some kind of sales award where he worked? Dan

Brady,

Those appear to be the same as the Schrade Everlastingly Sharp Heritage knives, except your covers are green wood and the E.S. are some type of maroon delrin.

I say that because mine have the same type of grooved bolsters as well.

Check the reverse side of the tang stamp to see if there is a number stamped......mine are all stamped H and then the number to signify Heritage.

Not alot of help, just a little info I came across

Tom

Some awesome pics XBXB and Charlie. This one won't make the calendar, but it was a nice night to take a picture.

61Schrades.jpg

Early 61OT, Schrade Walden 861, and an 61OT from Richard Langston. I had Muskrat Man put on the smooth elk scales. I want to get it pinned and have the shield put back on some day. Roland you are right about the 61OT. I don't think a lot of the retailers carried it for some reason.

Most definitely a great pattern.

Totally agree there thawk!!

I have one each of the 61OT and the 861. The 861 which came my way via yourself. this pattern takes over from where the 897 leaves off.

Russell

I remember that very knife Rusty. I bought it and a CASE XX USA 087PE from a sporting goods store in Canada. The 61 series is for sure one of Schrades more elegent patterns. I've seen a few older jigged bone examples with the lighter colored peachseed scales that are knockouts.

thanks tom and dan, my impression was a presentation set also. there is nothing stamped on the backside and no serial #'s. the sheilds and bolsters do resemble the heritage series but i feel they were made much later. even have a "ducks unlimited" feel to them. seller told me they came from up-state ny. wasnt able to find them in the collectorsrus site?? again if any of you guys have any data on these it would be great, thanks for the input-----------brady

Brady, i just won the same "Bird Hook" knife(mint) as in your set. california seller. it's the only one i had ever seen(basically as 77OT mod'n.) so mine must have come from breaking up that set.
roland

interesting roland, amazing what surfaces. my seller was in pa. the case is very well made, high quality, but has not a mark one. started to pry up the vac-formed velvety insert but realized it was stuck down very well. maybe more of these are sufacing and we will learn more about them. very good looking set, all i need to do is put a picture hook on the back, i know my wife will be excited!!!!!!!!thanks, brady

A 1966 Buck 301 made on contract from Schrade Walden.

Buck_301_F_2.jpg

Has the famous serpentine shape from the Schrade's three blade stockman, on the same frame as the 8OT and 881.
Black sawcut delrin scales. It is not 100% mint, but darned close.
It sports a little of that green grease on the tangs, and still has a waxy feel on the handles.

Buck_301_b_2.jpg

BUCK stamped on all three of the stainless steel blades (not 1095 carbon as I originally thought).

According to BLV, this is the second of the two 3 7/8" Stockman with slanted bolsters. The earlier version I guess is more common, and has slanted and grooved bolsters. The Schrade contract lasted about two years.

thawk! I have seen these around here and there and never made a move on them because of being unsure of origin. Do you know were both models made by Schrade or just your example above, which by the way is a real nice piece.

Russell

Yes, both (grooved and not grooved) of the Schrade contract knives were made on the same serpentine frame. After two years, the contract went to Camillus for I'm not sure how long. Only the Schrade contract knives had the same serpentine curve as the other Schrades in that family. Both Schrade and Camillus had long pulls.

Camillus versions were marked only on the masterblade (like most of the Schrades with grooved bosters did), and most say 301 in the stamp, and the bolster pin is usually visible. The Camillus version had the distinguishable swedge you would often see on their Craftsman made knives.

There is a pretty good piece on these in Levines 4th on Buck contract pocket knives.

Here are a few knives I've picked up over the last few weeks.

Schrade-Walden 225, Sears SFO with J.C. Higgins etch, with bone handles.

Schrade-Walden 293 Red Bone handles.

Herman Williams 8041 Heritage Whittler.

Schrade Cut Co Jack knife. Not sure if the handles are cell.

All four of those are very nice Rusty. A lotta nice bone on that 225, love the red bone on that trapper, and Herman always gets it right!. How long is that Cut Co jack knife?

Russell, v. v. nice ! you have a 'knack' for finding gems and professional level photography too. the 225 and 293 both look like they just left the Schrade factory. i too have a Heritage Whittler from Mr. Williams but mine has the Heritage Shield.
i have a number of Schrades on the way: 858(+), 51OT mint, with sheath and a Chicago Cutlery P19 Folding Hunter and sheath, "never used", which i think is basically a S-W 225. all these ebay'd for surprisingly low prices, given they's some desirable.
and here's one of my recent arrivals: "Schrade's" most recent version of the venerable 34OT:

looks like a very close copy to me and i believe CSC is composed mostly of former Imperial Schrade people. so ISC really does live on !

Thanks for the comments on the knives and pictures thawk & Roland. The Schrade cut co Jack knife is 3 3/8 in closed, not a bad size for the pocket and it also has some real good snap action.

I lucked out on the 225 and the trapper, the pics were small and not that defined. I took a chance that really paid off.

I know what you mean with regard to Canal Street Cutlery Roland, their factory definately employees some of the knife makers from the old Schrade plant.

I have collected many of their folding knives since they began, they should be bringing out some new models soon, so watch out. You can see some of their new models on their web site.

Russell, of course I like 'em all, but that JC Higgins knife is about the nicest 225 I've ever seen! What bone!

Roland, nice CS stockman, looks like the maple burl line;)
Their new models really set them apart now, nice big bolsters on the slippies:thumbup:

Hey I just bought this baby as the perfect compliment and opposite to my extra-fancy black one (http://s772.photobucket.com/albums/yy9/MesmerToads/?action=view&current=01.jpg). Kinda yin-yang don't ya think? It will look great displayed with the black-and-blued etched one and an OG four-pin LB-7 made in 1979. I paid more than I would have liked but I really wanted one of these asap to display and... well you know lol. 5 pics in folder. Dave

I too say "sales award" or some such thing. Schrade offered knives with various handles and 3 different insets customized like these as a special order to commemorate corporate happenings. Businesses would pre-order them. Often given out as safety, sales awards etc. I believe one of the Schrade catalogs has full details you want. Check them out.

These were made to hold knives up to five inches. There was another one, a little smaller, which I did not buy. Dumb!

I don't have much new stuff lately (new to me, anyway), but here is an LB-7 I just picked up at our favorite auction site.
