Glenn, that's a beauty! And an SFO to boot:thumbup: How the heck did you go this long without snagging one of those?

Larry, great link, I hadn't seen those before:thumbup: I'm going to try to remember to ask Wally about those particular sets (like Brady's). I've seen a good number of them, with different handle materials but in the same cases, over the last few years. Almost too many for sales/award sets. I honestly wonder if they're not a part of a limited edition series that didn't have time to get off the ground.

Very Nice looking LB7 you found there!! Cronatron if you don't know are a welding supply company. We've used them at work for many years.

These were made to hold knives up to five inches. There was another one, a little smaller, which I did not buy. Dumb!

You beat me for those with your last minute bidding techniques. Well done! Enjoy! I did win a small one and turns out he had an extra big one too not listed so I got both sizes after all. Glad I asked. These are the fanciest sheaths of all no doubt and the OG packaging is extra cool touch. I'm gonna polish up the brass snaps and display them almost as proudly as my knives. Are you gonna treat yours with anything? I was thinking some Dubbin which is what I have used on other sheaths to my satisfaction. These sheaths were only in catalogue for a very few years in the mid-80s. They also came with the "Custom " series offered during same period. I remember coveting these bad as a teenager. -Dave

Here is a link to a few of the annual gift/ad catalogs that Schrade would use

Thanks Larry. I missed that one. This Schrade business is fun for us Canuks too! Your site is just great and I've viewed nearly all of it. Thanks for all the work! They cost more at the time up in Canada and seemed even more qual-i-taaay to me because of it. I loved them since the '70s and my goal is to have a little table with exactly this ( http://www.collectors-of-schrades-r.us/FLYERS/1980s/pages/SC86-34-3.htm ) lying on it and the framed ad over it. I'm all about the LB series and the fillet knives. Over the years I told all my friends my Steelhead fillet was named "Uncle Henry" and they all grew to respect his razor-sharp, cut-you-and-you-don't-feel-it ways. If Schrade+ is 420A then that's what I like best: it sharpens easy enough and holds a good edge. Staglon makes good sense on a knife that's used around water all the time and mine has lasted since 1986 with no trouble. It is indestructible after all. Who knew? - Dave

just won this on ebay. thought i didn't have a chance since i bid with over 2 hours to go. i have discovered that i really like staglon having now gotten possesion of an LB8 which semi completes my LB series (knowing full well that i need a LB2,4 and 6 but can't afford those pricey things)

NIce snag on that one! I almost emailed that auction link to someone who was asking about one the other day, but he said he was looking for a used one, so I didn't. Glad to see someone here got it, at a good price to boot!

BTW, unless one of the wiser Schrade collectors here corrects me, there wasn't an LB6, so you can mark that one off your "gotta find" list.

Here's something a little unusual, a ball-breaking box full of tang stamps! Must be at least 65lbs! Gave them a good coat of WD40 to loosen up some of the rust, and put them to bed in a nice Schrade box:

These are not all Schrade stamps mind you, even though they came from the plant. Just to give you an idea of how diverse they were (and this is likely the tip of the iceberg), here's a list of what's in there:

Schrade (of course), a pile of Craftsman and Ulster, another pile of Olsen O.K. out of Michigan, Moose (?!?), Moore (Pomona, Calif.), Boker USA, Artisan, Kabar, Robeson, Western, A.E. Fuller, Buck, Arrow Cut. Co., Luxrite, Henry Sears and Son, Executive, Cutrite, Rich-Con, E.O.D. and Co., Union, Gemaco, Van Camp, Tru-Test, Premier USA, S&T USA, and LOTS of numbers, plus the dreaded double XX for rejects.

Now this of course doesn't mean that Schrade made all the models for these companies, but for sure they made at least one for each stamp. In the case of Olsen, they apparently made quite a few (blades) as there are all kinds of different size tangs with numbers as well. The bottom left group, four up and ten across, are all Olsen. I've got another box full of tang stamps in the basement, I'll have to go through those as well, but I believe most are quite new, some are still brand new with the melted plastic coating on them.

NICE one Thawk, it's in incredible shape! I saw that one, just couldn't go for it as usual, glad someone here snagged it:thumbup: You've done really well, you don't often see that model show up in any shape, let alone like new!

Thanks Eric. I always worry knives have been cleaned, but this one, other than a few tiny gray spots, and a little blade rub, is in excellent condition. I had never seen one until Brady posted one back in March, and Dale identified it.

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=628231&highlight=sportster

Dale indicates in his list of Open Stock Knives this one was made in 1953 and 1954. Must not have been a big seller.

Well done on securing that one thawk, I'm thinking around 53-54 Bone handles were still prominent and threfore you could be right about this one not being a big seller, due to the new fangled fibre material.

Nice Haul Eric on the tang stamps !! I hope your double hernia repairs itself pretty soon! :)

The fibre handle did not catch on either! Plus this one got thrown somewhere and was ignored. I'd have chosen the 920 with peachseed handles and a shackle, for 50 cents more, but I'm not complaining. :D

Eric - How was the stamp applied to the blade? Was it more of a manual process in early days? What all Schrade Stamps do you have? Any with pattern numbers?

Hal, very nice "Sportster" ! interesting that it has milled liners which usually are associated with Gent's knives or higher end bone handles. very classy Sports knife.
