Better picks of my 834.....

The B stands for "bolster," and usually refers to a knife that also had a non-bolster version. There are a couple pages of these codes in the front part of the 1926 catalog. BTW, that is a darling little knife! Good job!

Thanks Calvin, I knew this time it was not for Black. It is a sweet little thing. I believe it can come with a spear blade too, of which probably has a different fraction tacked on the end of the pattern number.

I really like the looks of the jigged delrin lwt. Looks sort of rich.Charlie the ns filed liners are fantastic. Hal, thats a nice haul. How many matchbooks do you have?

Not sure Steve, but more matchbooks than knives. :D

Charlie, that surely is another nice pair you have there.

Thanks Larry and Calvin. I've seen that page before, but with not so many knives that old... Looked through it tonight and the examples of Senator knives in the 1926. The spear was the default master blade in the 7423 pattern. Many variations, including an F7423T (Tipped Bolsters with a substituted file blade). The numbering system really was elaborate, and got less and less so as time went along, right along with all of the number of patterns. :(

The 4" Imperial Frontier Stockman, #4434 is as solid and well made as the 8OT. Note the nice pull and swage.

The LB3 is not seen often. Here's an unused one with a company blade etch and a nice Schrade sheath.

I know some folks will consider this a sin. But, a previous owner of my most recently acquired Schrade rigger obviously decided that a straight blade screwdriver was going to be of more use to hime than a marlin spike / fid.

...and he owned a grinding wheel and was NOT afraid to use it.

...actually, with large enough rope the "screwdriver" will still work fairly well as a fid.

The first photo shows a "normal" 735 at the top and the modified one below -- note the "shortened" spike.

The second photo is a closeup of the driver tip.

You'd have to try real hard to lose that Deer Hunter, Bridgeman!:D
Nice pair of knives.
Here's a pair to tempt you down the older folder path.
Recent of Ebay, a nice reddish Bone 4" stockman, and a very Red 3 5/8 Jack, with "worked" liners.
Who knows where the KeenKutter came from?? I like the jigging!
Charlie, you must be the king of the Ebay finds! I must not be using the right keywords to search. :grumpy: I can find the newer ones, but those moldy oldies seem to still elude me. I don't know how you do it!

LOL LOL
I think Charlie has a secret patented Schrade search engine.

Roland,
The LB3 is far and away my favorite Schrade pattern. I usually try to collect any variation I see, to include blade etches. But that one got by me, and I'm glad you got it. Nice snag!

If he's sellin' I'm buyin'. No joke, I don't know how those sellers are listing the older ones like those. I would like to see that listing just to see what I missed.

Chuck

Thanks Dave. It's the only LB3 i have seen with it's original sheath. Somehow most people missed it as it sold for only $16.

Larry, here's a blow up of the tang. It looks like a later knife to me (a la Eric).

Here are the links to the auctions - nothing special. But the pics of the stockman weren't great, so I took a chance.

Look at the bidding on the Keen. I hit the reserve, or it would have gone unsold.

The prices were fair, but not screaming deals.

On my "secrets" for finding knives, I don't have any. "Schrade Cut" and "Schrade Walden" are typical. I search "Keen" once in a while to see what pops up - mostly junk.

Well, I do feel somewhat better about my Schrade searching abilities now. I was watching that stockman, but it went out of my range long before the end. Glad to see you picked it up!

897UH - Box a bit rough. Note the grind at the tip of the sheepsfoot. hmmm
Has anyone seen this before?

and...
834UH - used. A bit of rust on the inside. Not bad overall.

The paperwork on my 834UH said it was stainless. It's in post #1841. Are they just high carbon, or are the springs carbon steel? My other question would be "did they make them out of steel first, then change to stainless?"
I gotta tel you, I've always had a preference of natural scales, but the more I handle this knife, the more I like it.
Thanks,
Steve

I just went thru a stack of 897UH and the only one with that rounding of the sheepfoot is my EDC, and it didn't start out that way. I have used it to cut gaskets and it is worn. The backspring is not stainless, just the blades.

ETA: Yours is obviously unused, so possibly the factory grind was just off. If you don't like it as a collectable because of this flaw, drop it in your pocket and give it a ride for a week or two. I carry one year round and would miss mine greatly.
