What's your latest Schrade? END DATE 8/12

I just went thru a stack of 897UH and the only one with that rounding of the sheepfoot is my EDC, and it didn't start out that way. I have used it to cut gaskets and it is worn. The backspring is not stainless, just the blades.

Typical. I get the one screwed up one in the bunch!
My life... :barf:

Come on Greg "I get the one screwed up one in the bunch". that's a bit harsh. knife is still perfectly good. most of my Schrades are used. they have 'battle scars'; but what's so neat about Schrade is they still work fine: no play, good snap. That's what's important. your knife(like your life) deserves to be loved !

In some respects I like the flawed ones better than the "perfect" ones. It reaffirms that someone, not something, made that knife and gives it more character. I have a number of flawed knives and whenever I'm showing off my knives they are usually the first ones to get "talk time".

I agree with Roland and Chuck. I love my ABC knives. Makes me want to carry them and I have less fear of mucking them up. I enjoy the cleaning and polishing of an old blade. Cleaning the knife gets me a lot closer to it than buying new and putting it away. Most of my collection are used knives. I also understand the beauty of a brand new untouched knife for the collection. I also have a few of those too . Just ask my wife.
Enjoy them all.

Sheepfoot maybe ?

it was my attempt at a joke...

you are correct. i just chuckle because nothing i have is "perfect". i guess in a way i like it that way. i tend to baby them less.

again, i agree. i have an absolutely MINT 165UH 1st generation that the maker got a bit aggressive while (i hope i get the term right codger) glazing. it dug a divot in the delrin on both sides of the tang on the underside.

this 897uh looks like the person putting an edge on it got a tad aggressive. it's my first 897, not my last, and may VERY well find its way to my pocket. fortunately there is now an 834 which resides there which i have had for two days. took a bid of de-rusting of the springs on the inside. 0000 steel wool, a touch of oil. great snap, full blades.

if anyone questions whether i like to get old torn up blades and fix them up:

i have since fixed the sheath as well.

i stand humbly corrected in the presence of my fellow schrade lovers. the 897uh has found a permanent home.

How could you hide that beauty from us for two whole weeks, Eric????:eek:
I'm insulted!!:D

Nice knife - very nice!

....and that unique Walden box and purse/sheath is even better. I've never seen a similar box. Great find Eric. Hoo Roo

That's a dandy Eric. I have an 877 like that (no box though), but your package is in much nicer condition. Looks like that just came out of Bloomingdales about fifty years ago. The leather is really soft on those purses, and some nice MOP too.

Question about the manicure blade. Does the manicure blade have a slight curve (upswept) at the tip, or did mine get used to pry something? I always thought mine might be bent.

Nice Lobster Eric! Pretty much perfect! good looking set! I bet that pearl something else in real life.

Beautiful pearl on this one Russell, LOTS of color. The purse is very soft, almost stretchable, forms right around the knife.

Hal, there's a VERY slight curve to the file, almost imperceptible, at the very tip. Very tight fit when closed, but no rubbing whatsoever.

Thanks for verifying that. That's how mine is Eric. The slight bend must be by design then, as it bends right around the tip of the knife blade. The subtle dual cut-outs in the pearl are a cool feature too.

Here's one of my Schrade-Walden Gent's knives. Very nice wood box and Candle End bolsters.

I find it surprising that such a fine knife in an upscale presentation box has "Marine Pearl' handles, rather than real pearl. Schrade's "Marine Pearl" however is the best imitation pearl i have seen.

Very nice knives these lobsters! Roland, that looks like real pearl to me, that don't look like no toilet seat pearl from here.
