Those 1950's Ulster's like that are made sturdy, along the lines of a Cattle Knife. I like that one with the Longhorn on the handle. Looks brand new!

Here is a 3 5/8 inch ivory celluloid Cutco jack in brand new condition. I sure hope it doesn't go rogue on me. My scans show mirror finish blades in a very inaccurate way.

Beautiful stock knife Larry! They don't get much better than that. I think I have that steer head stamp around here somewhere, that old boy sure got around, I think they used the same head on the Keen Kutter cattle knife.

Fantastic Jack Cal, you guys sure do find the nice-uns.

I have been busy (it seems to be the way things are now :barf: ), but had to pop in and share a few new Schrades & say 'Howdy."

I realized recently I had a dearth of #175s in my Schrade collection. I set about to remedy that. I fished 3 #175s out of the ‘bay. It was then that I found out an interesting fact that had heretofore escaped my somewhat myopic eagle eye.

There were two different size 175s made by Schrade. After a bit of research I see the 175 is listed as 3-3/8 inches in the Shortline catalogs through 1963. In 1964, they are listed as 3-3/4 inches.

The first 175 at the top of the pictures is a 3-3/8 inch Schrade Walden. So it would be made in 1963 or before.
The middle knife is also a Schrade Walden but it is 3-3/4 inches. So, it would be made from 1964 to mid 1973. The bottom knife is a Schrade 175 which would be 1973 or later.

They made me do a double take when I saw the two different sizes with the same model number.
Now I have an explanation, though I don’t know the reason for the change.
Does anyone here know the reason?

Dale

That jack knife is a beauty too. Love the shield on that cream colored handle.:thumbup::thumbup:

Great sleuthing Dale!

Good to see the 175 topic come up
I recently came to own a SW 175 with the "mahogany" sides
It's 3-3/4" long and has a serrated blade edge

Any info on when in Schrade history the serrated (is it called Wonda Edge?) appears on a 175? I've been thru all the available catalogs and price lists and can't seem to find it.

The auction is still available to view a pic

The 1 picture doesn't do it justice - wish I had the means of snapping a pic to post

Last week's mail.....

SDC10685.jpg

and what she can do now that she has been honed/stropped up to specs....

SDC10687.jpg

She rode with me in my cargo shorts today during yard chores for the elderly woman next door. Sliced right through hostile vines and crape myrtle branches with ease. Showered off, sat down with the Sharpmaker and a cardboard strop, got right back to scary sharp in no time at all.

Love old steel.

I was digging around for my Sch/Wal model #225H to post with all the others here but I couldn't find it. I did however run into these two key knives though I thought you guys might like to take a look at. I waited a LONG time to finally get the both of these. I was wanting them for long time before I finally got them ! !
The Sch/Wal "Hide a Key" in untouched with factory finish & edge, but I DID clean up the Geo. Schrade key knife a little bit, (not to much though). That little Geo. Schrade even has half stops with no play and good snap.

Well, I'm kinda excited about this one. The upside down shield makes me think it fell off and someone put it back on the wrong way, but if it is authentic, which I think it is, then that will be an easy fix. She ain't perfect, but hey, they're hard to come by and it could be a lot worse.

Ok, so it came in the mail today and I think it is outstanding! It is taking a mineral oil bath right now because I noticed the ends of the bone scales were dry and looked like they could have splintered. The secondary blades snap like alligators and I think after the mineral oil soak the clip will regain some snap. It is very heavy as compared to my other 8OTs.

So here's the question, should I make an attempt to remove the shield and glue it in correctly or should I leave it alone and enjoy it the way it is? Thanks for the input and hopefully I will be able to take some good pictures and post in a few days.

Chuck

if it were mine, feel free to mail it to me any time, i would leave it unique. at the minimum you can always tell which one is yours. plus as we all know who knows might have been down under day at schradeville.

Real nice Jack, Tongueriver! So far my older Celluloid Schrades have shown good stability! (he knocks on wood).
I like your 895 and 861, a page or two back, as well. Nice patina, great knives!

So after sitting 24hrs in mineral oil, I cleaned her up and as luck (or fate) would have it the shield came loose. So, the question I had posed earlier about whether I should remove it and flip it over to the correct orientation kind of answered itself. Here it is cleaned up and ready to go into the display.
