I got a 1970's era OT340 in a lot buy off Ebay. It only took me 7 minutes to get it nice and sharp. I swear the older Old Timers just sharpen faster than the post 95 _till they closed one's.

I got the last of my December bargins today. FINALLY, I got a good deal on one of these End Of Days Old Timers. 97OT blade with yellow sawcut scales and Old Timer shield. Took a chance on a crappy picture posting and it cleaned up real good, except for a stubborn little goober above the shield. I think it's glue. I can rarely take pictures that do justice to the knife. And I got it for about one seventh the cost of the most that I have seen these go for, $205.00. Don't know what that guy was thinking. Last month one went for less than $40 and this one, less than $30. It's been a good month, although I'll be eating bread and water for a while.

A nice addition to my growing EOD collection.

If it weren't for Ducks Unlimited, there would be alot less cool Schrade knives. Especially the Staglon versions. It's too bad that Uncle Henry shields didn't find they're way on to the EODs. Like with the 77UH and the 15UH. Never could figure out why Schrade didn't catalog those two. Especially the 77UH. The muskrat pattern is super popular. And then there is the 160 pattern too.

Say, on another note, do you have any idea how that yellow Old Timer EOD knife came to be? I have no idea where those yellow scales came from. Do you? I have also seen some of them with scales that were white instead of yellow. The sawcut lines are really shallow and faint. Any ideas on them?

Saddlebum, I have the Duck muskrat knife with the staglon handles, and 2 different Ducks 15s with staglon handles.
Schrade had the ACB296 Blue bone knives, and the Wooden handled Anniversary knives in the pipeline when they closed down.
They had made the some special order sets (including one on a 96/296 frame) in Blue and Brown bone handles.
I have seen White handles. However, your Yellow handled knife is one I have not seen.

I have the Staglon muskrat knife too, but it doesn't have a shield. Just blank scales. I've been thinking about getting the DU model and almost bought one recently. I really want one with the Uncle Henry shield, but I've only seen a couple of them, and not for sale. I'm seeing that 296Y blade all over on parts knives and that one SMKW scrimshaw trapper that I have. Recently saw one with an orange handle too. The LTD tang stamp is the same way too on the EODs. Leftovers, I guess, from SFOs like the Tennesse River Trapper, white micarta handle knives and others. It keeps me watching to see what might show up next.

You are correct, these ones are really rare. The 77UH was never shown in the catalogs. There was a run of about 8-10 of them on eBay several years ago, and I haven't seen any of them since. I sold this one about 3 years ago.

I felt lucky to get mine without the UH shield back in '06. I have never had a chance to get one like yours, or even seen one for sale. But I keep looking. I didn't expect to stumble across a 15UH with UH shield one day on ebay but low and behold, there it was. So maybe I'll get lucky again some day. Thanks for posting the picture. Even pictures of them are in short supply. I have a tendency to gravitate towards these un-cataloged, special order, end of days type knives. It's a frustrating addiction. :)

Schrade knives are a fertile ground for those kinds... there are all kinds of unique cool oddballs.

I have an 877UH in my 1991 Display.

NICE!!
I stumbled on a real nice new 877UH without a box at a surplus store years ago. They are a really, realy nice pattern too. I have lots of odds and ends that I picked up in 2006 when I used to search out any place that might still have some Schrades left in an old display or something. That's how I came across that 194OT, (above pic), with the Schrade+ SC503 blade on it. It was in a box with some other leftovers on a shelf behind the counter of a little mom and pop hardware store in the mountians of northern California. I later picked up another one on ebay without a box. I used to drive around in the mountians on weekends to little towns and rumage through the antique stores, drug stores, sports shops, flea markets and any place that I might find a Schrade. I got some pretty good closeout prices doing that. I got a nice new 885UH from a K-Mart for $13. It was the last Schrade knife they had left and they just wanted to get it out of their case. Those first couple of years after Schrade closed the doors were good times to pick up on alot of the standard patterns to start a collection containing one of everything and extras to sell on ebay.

This my help with an answer to your yellow knife, this is a Special Order knife I have not seen another like.
It was made around 2002-03. I have been told schrade made a number of knives, that were not taken up by the big retailers.
I have a number of knives and knives sets, that were in the pipe-line when Schrade closed down. Ken.

Now that would be a line of knives that I could get into. Yellow sawcut and my favorite shield. It seems like the possibilities are endless. Well, somebody thought yellow sawcut handles was a good idea. I assume that the original configuration of my knife had two blades since I don't know of any other configurations of that size and pattern. A clip and spey or a clip and saw.

I think 2014 was going to be a big year for Schrade collectors, there was some great knives in the pipe line for their 100th Anniversary.
Schrade had some of their 2004 knives made in China, with the 100th Anniversary blade etch.
The "Blue Rope-cut bone ACB knives" were well on their way, with some unfinished knives made - The sample knives were finished with the 100th Anniversary blade etch, and flyers were printed.
The "Blue picked bone knives" were mainly unfinished, I believe they could have been a special order. (K-Mart maybe)
The "Maple handed knives", with the 100th Anniversary blade etch did not make it to production. (some knives were made)

just got in my two new acquisitions, a 89OT and a Cowboy Commemorative with all the bling. was just wondering how does one sharpen the serrated blade on the 89OT? with a rattail file?

WOW! The colors on your knife really POP, compared to mine. That's a nice set.
Multiple companies make round and round tapered sharpening sticks. If you have a Lansky sharpener, they make a stone for serrated blades. I have used them, but not with the angle guide. I had better luck free handing it. I always try to carefully knock the burrs off the flat side with a flat stone too.

Edit:
I don't want to give the impression that I am endorsing the new Lansky Knife sharpeners. They are worthless junk!
If you want to go with a Lansky, (it's a good system), then search for an old one that uses the stones that Lansky built their reputation on years ago. I have sharpened everything from small pen blades to a rigging axe, (just to prove I could), with the old Lansky. After buying a new one with the new type stones, I couldn't sharpen one LB7 before the stones just quit sharpening, like they were worn out. I threw it in the trash and found a good used old Lansky and I'm back to shaving the hair off my arms with the knives I sharpen with it. I bought another new Lansky at one point and the angle guide clamp refused to hold the knife securely. I returned that one to the store and got my money back.

Here's one I just picked up a bit over a week ago. I posted these pics over on the traditional forum, but figured I should put them here as well.

Schrade Walden 204S in cocobolo, circa 1950s. As new. The only blemish is a carbon spot in the etching on the lock blade. A really nice, well made knife!
