Nice lot. Yeah, I know how it is. The great thing about the USA schrades is that as far as value i.e. quality to price ratio, you can simply not beat them!!

This SLW2 showed up today. It's a good size for legal carry in my area and I like the blade shape. Now I need to find one without serrations.

This Pruner, I believe it's called. I don't normally seek out this type of knife, but when I saw the maker's mark, I knew I had better at least inquire. The store owner that is also a friend said if I wanted it, just take it. The price was definitely right.

If any of you guys have any information about this one, I'd sure like to hear about it. I can't make out the second word on the scale.
It looks like RIVER, RIVET, or something similar.

I think you will find it hard to find an SLW2 with-out the serrations, I think they were only made in 2003 to 2004.
The year 2000, SLW1 knives show up from time to time and they did not have serrations on their blade...Ken

I can't read it. Your knife was usually sold to work with rope and cordage, and the ones with a hooked blade for pruning, but depending on your bent, there could be some overlap in their use by a tradesman. You could also say that you have a serious box cutter. You could cut out leather. I read something by a merchant marine fellow one time who said that true (hmmm...) sailors often carried something like this along with various marlinspikes or fids instead of the combo type we often see with the marlinspike as part of a knife with a rope blade like yours. Before the Baer takeover (late 1946) these had rat tail bolsters (the wide groove). The first Schrade Waldens also had this groove, which was soon dropped. That rat tail bolster is often evidence of early knives, regardless of maker. I am guessing that most of the 163s and 136s were sold to companies rather than individuals. BTW, the examples of knives like yours which I have handled had a snap that could be worrisome. A careless finger could end up pointing at the ER.

I have picked up a few Schrade-Walden 136 & 163 on ebay for rather low prices as they are not as popluar a collectible as most other patterns. If you are patient the occasional never used example shows up and often will go for a low price considering it's at least 44 years old.

I believe that is it. I took it out into the bright sunlight and the second word appears to be river. Any idea on date?
Thanks guys. :)

Between 1946 and 1959 is the best I can do.

From the web:

The Powell River Company merged with MacMillian Bloedel in Dec 1959 and became known as MacMillan Bloedel & Powell River Ltd.

So I won this knife when I was a child, and I'm hoping someone can tell me a little about it . it's a schrade , on the blade it says schrade Walden N.Y U.S.A then has 745 on the side. I'm new to this so idk how to upload pic or I would. The knife has three blades as well. Thanks for any input.

Thanks, that makes sense. :) I googled Powell River Knives, but didn't think to google Powell River CO.

I started with the knowledge that most impressed industrial working knives had SFO names of the companies they were made for. Much less expensive than tang markings. And this knife pattern, as mentioned, was used in many trades. In this case likely the aforementioned paper mills. It could have been a rope works, felt mill or...
