What's your Near Perfect Knife?

Generally, the last one I bought:D...

Lol, that's true too!

This knife is a 9 out of 10 for me. Perfect blade steel (M390), shape and size, and custom micarta scales. The only negative is knowing that the omega springs in the axis lock will likely fail at some point and knowing my luck it will be at the worst possible moment. It's also a bummer that the knife is a discontinued model.

That is another one for me. Almost great, the grip is just a bit cramped for me, otherwise perfect

The Gareth Bull Shamwari and the Buck 055 are very different small knives, but I think they both check many of the "almost perfect" boxes. The design on the Shamwari is so clean and minimal. The M390 blade steel is top shelf. It is the most flawless knife I have owned. The Buck 055 is a factory second with a wonky grind and a poor quality piece of wood on the back side handle. About once a week the lockup fails because a small piece of pocket lint gets between the back lock and the blade. The steel is, well, you know. But, it fits my hand perfectly. It looks classic. The clip point blade is SO useful. It is razor sharp within seconds. And, if I break it or loose it, I can easily replace it. Out of all the knives I own, the Buck 055 is the one I grab most often, and the one I feel most comfortable using.

At the risk of being boring, I must confess that the nearest perfect knife for my edc is still the PM2, particularly in m390 or cts204p steel. Great combination of lightweight, strength, locking system, relatively smooth but grippy handles, fit and finish, size, and excellent ergonomics.

In a close race for second are the American Lawman, the lw Manix 2, and the Ritter Grip.

In the big folder category, the Recon1 has caught up to the Military for top spot.

Folder - Custom or Midtech - Ferrum Forge Fortis
Production - Protech Rockeye auto in CPM D2
Fixed blades - Extra Large - my 3V slimline machete
large - Carothers light chopper
medium - Survive knives GSO 5.1
Medium small - Carothers field knife
Small - Gollik knives 3.5 inch Elmax bladed custom

The pm2 with custom scale is pretty perfect for my uses, but I rotate a lot of other good knives.

I guess it depends on the context. I think the 0452 is as close to perfect as any knife, but not really a go to user. The Chaparral is probably the perfect office EDC, and the PM2 has seen some of the most use because it's so good at everything. But the first one that always comes to mind is the Slysz Bowie...

Mine is a GEC 77 clip point red sawcut bone, but since I’m always too late I have a Lionsteel Shuffler in natural micarta coming. Probably the only knife I will buy this year?

We all know there is no such thing as the perfect knife

You mean besides my Para2M4 . . . right !

Near perfect . . . that would be my my Brad Zinker Urban Trapper in VG-10 rehandled a little bit.
I love showing baby pictures . . . aren't you sorry you asked ?

Here he is after final tweaking of the handle shape.
OH YEAH !
(there must be something about it that makes it not perfect but it escapes me right now)

OK two more . . . in one photo though . . . I'm trying to go easy on you . . .
Cold Steel Ti Lite IV in XHP ground nice and thin (1.9mm at the spine) for REAL cutting work.
and
a Case Trapper (spay blade removed) in nice fat genuine stag.
LOVE THIS THING ! ! !
Not perfect ? Riiiiiiiigggggggghhhhhhht. Both just stellar performers.
PS: oops looks like the spay blade is still on in this photo but I removed it later. Want to see that photo ? Just ask. :):p:)

My custom Les Voorhies ticks all my boxes: carbon fiber & Ti, satin finished blade, anodized blue trim, and a sexy overall look. Oh, and it flips like a dream on the IKBS bearings

Spyderco Manix 2 G-10
CS Code 4 Spear Point. I bought some G10, I'm going to make some scales. I'm not a fan of metal handles. Other then the metal scales, great knife.

Wowbagger Wowbagger I knew you would bring up your rehandled Trapper, I almost put something in my OP about how "this is the part where Wowbagger brings up his Urban Trapper" but I decided not to jinx it. I didn't foresee the M4 PM2 though, I had one, great knife. I was an idiot and traded it away.

940-1 made in the Spyderco Taiwan plant
Oh my Bob ! ! ! !
I'm swooning. That would be so awesome !
Along with a little grind grind on the order of my Ti Lite.
Although I was carrying my 940-1 on the week end and it is super "adequate" as is :D

Why grind it ? ? ? ?
I took these photos a couple of weeks ago and haven't used them yet.
That bit of hard skin stuff sticking up there from beside my finger nail . . .
I tried the 940-1 to snip it off. Repeatedly the knife just said ". . . unmpf . . . wellllll . . . I can cut other stuff . . . Unmpf . . . but this is toooooooo diffffficult . . . unmpf !"

My Little Monster in the second photo . . . I tried that just for contrast. It snipped through it SO FAST and said "What ? ? ? What was it you wanted to cut ? ? ?".

I rest my case.
