Nice.500s arrived. Very happy. Comparable to the 112, slightly different profile, a bit less chonky but still a substantial knife. Size difference doesn't seem like much, but it's definitely noticeable when I hold them.

Compared to the 112 with drop point, for anyone curious.

Nice.
I like those stainless bolsters.
Edit due to answer in photo thread.These. A couple more pics in the tacked Buck
Outstanding!! Thanks for the photos..,, I have to live vicariously through you!A couple of my newest Bucks from BLADE show!
Buck brought a lot of pretty CKS builds, and they had some of their new knives as well. They brought twenty of these "Founder's Edition" 791s and I couldn't get my money out fast enough! I don't know whether it was twenty of each color, or just twenty total, I candidly didn't ask. They had both the large/regular and the mini size. The CKS build is a large Spitfire with Marble carbon fiber and a Magnacut blade. I love the both of these very, very much, so let's see a few pics!

What? How small was the Mini? Oh. Oh, that. It was extremely small, which is why I ultimately chose against purchasing one. Well, that, and it was $235:

For reference, I wear an XL glove!
I also picked up one of the G10 110 Autos in S30v, as they were a show special for an extremely good price, as they are switching to S35vn in their next batch and going forward! All in all, it was a great show.
Nice! I realise you've only had it long enough to do some fidgeting with it, but what do you think of Buck's cross bar lock so far? I hear about broken Omega springs once in a while, but my Benchmades have seen a lot of use over the years, and I've never had a single problem with their locks.A couple of my newest Bucks from BLADE show!

I will say that I am not personally concerned. I have a ton of crossbar lock knives from plenty of different manufacturers now that Benchmade's patent expired, and owned BMs for many many years before that, and have never had a broken spring. Does it happen? It seems to, but in rare instances. Spring breakage has never appeared to be a common thing, so (knock on wood) I expect many years of general use without any issues. Also, it bears mentioning that the Range is a thin knife with a very thin slicey blade, so hard use probably wasn't what they designed this knife for, instead gunning for more of an EDC role.Nice! Awesome that you were able to get a Range so early. Keep us updated as to how you like it. I cant wait to get one.A couple of my newest Bucks from BLADE show!

Will do! I purchased several really fantastic knives over the weekend but the Range was the one that went into my pocket immediately. Buck just continues to be one of my favorite brands, because a 110 or 112 rides in my right front pocket every day regardless of whatever else I'm carrying, and it gives me a bit of a chuckle that there's this big classic brick they make, right next to this very modern, well machined new design. Old and new, and they just work together. I love that, and not many makers/manufacturers can make that claim.Awesome that you were able to get a Range so early. Keep us updated as to how you like it. Also, interesting to know they're switching the 110 auto elites from s30v to s35vn. If they follow suit with the 112's, I may have to break down and order one. I'm starting to get hooked on autos.
I can tell you that the crossbar lock wrist "flip" worked just fine on both sizes, so if you don't want the thumbstuds, you actually won't need them. Hell, CRKT offers their Rendition models* where the only opening method is the crossbar flip!I can't wait to get my hands on a couple mini Ranges for the kids and me. Most likely the lower tier (Pro?) since I'm a fan of non-powder metallurgy and non-Vanadium carbide metals - and with four kids, a lower price is always welcome. LOL! The problem is, when they see me with one, they're not going to want to wait to get theirs in the stocking at Christmas.
Looking atQuiet 's pictures (THANK YOU) it appears they changed the thumb stud to a threaded connection vice the press/interference fit of, say, the 110/112 Slims. That excites me greatly. As long as the flipping action is what it appears on the various YouTube videos, I'll probably remove it - but like knowing I can always put it back on easily.
You convinced me. I went ahead and pre-ordered a Range Pro and Mini Range Pro from Knife Center. I don't know if their prices will be more/less/even with buying direct from Buck using the BCCI discount, but from waiting on other new releases in past years, the Buck website was the LAST place the new releases came in stock (I'm sure that's by design, and part of their agreement with their retailers), so this should get them in my hands sooner. That way the kids can see if they like the crossbar lock, pick their size and color if they want one, and we can see where the prices and BCCI discount shakes out once they're available from Buck directly.I can tell you that the crossbar lock wrist "flip" worked just fine on both sizes, so if you don't want the thumbstuds, you actually won't need them. In retrospect, removing the thumbstuds on the Range will also allow it to be a better cutter, given that the stud is behind the edge, so it opens up the entire blade of the knife to cardboard duty, and given how thin the blade is, it will excel at it.
* A new mini Rendition was released/revealed at BLADE this year.
Honestly, I'll need to look at my collection for a comparison. It's more or less single blade slipjoint thin, both in handle and blade. I'll get some further pictures this evening, so you guys can see how thin the blade and handle truly are. I should have done it last night.Quiet on the range.....what would ya compare the thickness of the handle to?
