Whats your pocket knife pet peeve?

My biggest peeve is all the reviews, coming here, videos, comparing & finally making a decision; something else pops up. Dang it, I'm up to comparing three now. Freakin rabbit hole!

Blades not centered when the knife is closed. This means you Benchmade and Spydrco. Especially Benchmade.

Foreign companies can do it on a $50 knife, why can’t you do it on a knife costing over twice that amount?

Oh, and another thing, I try to buy American made from an American company. If that can’t be done, I try to purchase American made from a foreign company. The idea is to save jobs here in the US.

That is the same reason I try to avoid self checkout. I once had a young cashier tell me that I should use self checkout because there was no waiting in line and it was easier and faster.

You should have seen the look on her face when I explained that I preferred to wait in line a short amount of time so she could keep her job. It was like the thought of people being jobless because of self checkout have never crossed her mind.

Your attempt at challenging my comment was weaksauce. You also don't get to tell others what they can and can't bring up. If that's an issue for you, well, that's not my problem. If you disagree with a comment I made, that's fine. "Don't bring it up unless you want to talk about it." NNNGGGG no.

Let's try to keep it civil. We're just having a discussion here. I don't think anyone is trying to tell you what you can or cannot do in authoritarian terms. In the course of civil debate though, it is at least courteous to answer questions and to respond in kind when someone takes the time to address what you've written.

Now, you've accused me of asking "leading questions". So let me take it a step further and restate my position as a heuristic.

1. When you refuse to buy knives because they were made in China, what is the intended goal of this behavior?

2. How well does this behavior actually promote the goal?

3. Is the reality of that goal more substantially determined by other factors totally unrelated to this behavior?

Just one question for you sir. What does it really matter to you? Really. This is America he doesn't have to answer you. You are acting like your entitled to some kind of explanation. It's also not a debate. He told you he wasn't going to explain his personal decisions. Let it go Elsa.

*Unswedged blade spines:

I'll never comprehend giving a blade a good grind but taking away penetration capability. I see this an awful lot in Spyderco and I scratch my head in confusion to the popularity of their knives.

*Assisted Opening/Automatics:
I just appreciate manual thumb-studs or finger guard/flipper design. I like to feel the blade come out manually. Yes, I'm one of the select few not turned on by Auto's on any level also.

*Titanium:
I suppose if a liner lock knife has titanium liners...it's there and I don't care, it works. I don't comprehend buying a knife completely with scales made of titanium. Give me Zytel, G-10, or aluminum scales with rubber inserts. Too many perks behind the standard materials that stand up to the tests of time.

*Ken Onion:
I just don't like his designs.

Cashiers have never been fired because of self checks. They just get moved around. Plus the self checks need a few people to watch it anyways. Just a common retail misconception. Please use self checks people. Trust me.

Now we can agree on Benchmade needing to get themselves straight. I dont understand how such a large knife company can have so many quality control issues for so long. Civivi knives are basically perfect and they cost 40 bucks. I recently got a nice Ruger CRKT knife for 30 bucks from walmart and it was super smooth and perfectly centered.

Come on Benchmade.

That may be, but, I doubt it.

You have 12 self checks and one cashier to watch over them. You think everyone got to keep their job? Who are you trying to kid?

Somebody got transferred to another position, got their hours cut, or something. As a minimum, they took over another job and because of that, someone else did not get hired.

put in self checks and now only staff a couple of registers with cashiers, forcing you to use self checkout. Before we had 10-12 cashiers plus baggers. At times they would have a few less but always more than two.

Sorry. I don’t buy it. Somebody, somewhere is not working because of self checkouts.

Claiming that jobs are not lost is BS.

Since you asked, I thought we were here to share and discuss ideas, viewpoints, and opinions centered around a love of cutlery, EDC gear, etc. I don't know. I've been involved in hobbies, sports, clubs, and fraternal organizations offline for decades. Maybe it's a mistake to treat discussion here the way I'm used to having it there. Please forgive my expectations.

Via my earlier heuristic, I refuse to use self checkout when possible but I do EDC a Civivi. I do other things to support freedom, American workers, and our rights but like Cosmodragoon said; that stuff is beyond the scope of the forum here.

That said, here's a peeve. I'm all set on D2 across the budget range. I'm glad it's an option for people who want it. It's just gotten so dominant. There are a lot of new designs across the sub-$100 range that I'd love to see offered in decent budget stainless. Whether at levels where it could be 9Cr18Mov, 14C28N, VG-10, N690, etc... D2 seems to be crowding the scene.

There you go. That's what this thread is pet peeves. I myself I own Chinese made knives. Hence my call out on there crapy warranties. And I think for the most part they make a fine product. But when someone says they are not going to give you an answer in a thread about pet peeves. Just leave it go. There's a place you can go here to debate people on things. This is not the place. This was just asking what individuals think. Not so they would have to answer for it. It wasn't what is your pet peeves and why. Just what is your pet peeve. All good.
