What's your threshold for "too expensive?"

The most I'll probably ever spend on a knife (may change in the future) is about $300. After that, I doubt I'll ever seriously consider using anything more expensive than that. If I buy something like that, it will probably be for an investment purpose (Busse, Spartan blades, etc.). Otherwise, I'll stick to guns. :D

As of right now anything over $500 is too expensive for me. But that's not to say that later down the road that threshold might be higher. Before I got into knives I use to think $70 was too expensive.

My most expensive blade is $175.00.... and it is a user. I don't like spending too much on a knife, then loosing it or having it pick-pocketed. I've considered buying a higher-end Zero Tolerance for around $250.00, that I like. But after than that, my limit is around that price.

Right now my limit is around $350 or so but It will go up in the future. I will eventually by a sebenza and a strider.

That will completely depend on how much expendable income I have at the time..

Depends on what tasty knife treat calls out to my wallet...like that 0777...:D

The most I have spent on a single knife was 550 for a SMF DGG at blade show.

Although that weekend I spent close to 2,000 on various knives. So I guess I don't really have a limit if I want it bad enough. And no, I can't spend like that regularly.

For everyday factory-made knives, I generally stay under $100. Sweet spot for recent orders has been $50 and under for Boker traditionals, under $75 for a Ka-Bar Becker, and $20-$80 for various Scandinavian brands.

Something mass-produced but uncommonly attractive, or a desired collectible, I'm willing to spend more. Recently bought a NIB uncommon Old Timer for more than I'd pay for a current-production knife. There's a new version Bark River Tanto calling my name, but with a $100 price increase of the old version it's not likely to happen. There are a couple of nice fixed blades in the $150 range that I'd definitely consider.

Anything more than $150 and I'm totally not interested in a production-line knife.

For a custom, so far the limit has been $225 if I recall correctly. I could spend more than that, but not without some serious pondering.

Mine was 500.00 but I blew that...now i think it might be 800.00 - it has to be DAMN nice and be a driving force for me at that price. I find it odd that the difference of even 100.00 and suddenly i'll lose interest in something. Example, a XM-18 Hinderer - I want one, but not bad enough to pay more than 600 for it. even at 725.00 -- I'm just not that interested. I recently paid close to my threshold for a NIB gray Navy SEAL MT Scarab because I really REALLY wanted one, and a gray one and no serrations. I think it has to be not just the model i want but the PERFECT combinations of other features. a Orange xm-18 or blue? i'd probably jump on...black? meh, not as much.

I'm still at the point where $80 is pushing it. Still begin in University (only 4 more months!!) spending more than around 80-100 on a single knife leaves me with some buyers remorse.

Don't know if I have a limit, it really depends on the knife. Usually, if a knife is over $500, I wouldn't buy it unless I thought about it for a few days. Usually, by the time I wake up the next morning, I'll know if it was just an impulse, or if I really want it.

my "limit" is ~400, but I've had to break that a couple times... and probably will a few more times in the future. :)
I have no limit on users either... I've beat my most expensive knife like I paid 5 bucks for it :D

Used to be $100 only three years ago, then moved up to $150 the year after and kinda dipped to $80 ever since (have bought a lot at around $80, mostly used off the bay) This year has those new ZTs though, and my preorder for a 561 is going to hurt a bit.

But really after a $300 drill/driver set and a $160 PFD this month, that ~$250 for the ZT isn't seeming so bad.

Can't talk myself into Seb or Strider territory yet though, maybe next year. :D

I hear you man. I'm in school too, and its hard to pay more than $100 when you know you have five or six years left, (I'm studying to be a pharmacist.)

Custom Knives ~~ my limit is $1,200 (because I have one) and production Knives would be CRK with a high of $600 or so. But my Guns are whats killing me more than Knives and of course the cost of a case of ammo is out of site for what it is and how fast you can go through it.!
