What's your woods walking knife right now ?

I have alternated 3x's so far using different blades,
1.Rc4
2.D.koster Bushie
3.KOA Alpha wolf
right now I have carried the KOA all over with it's light weight & razor sharpness...

Right now it's a re-handled Mora for me, at least until I get the time and money to make myself a nice blade out of 1/8" O-1.
It got quite a workout just 2 weeks ago when I was up in the mountains; it cleaned two limits of trout and carved a spoon and a couple of barber poles, as well as started our fires with my ferro rod(my dad was impressed by that):

Always a SAK Trekker. Either F1 or Shing Bushcraft. I have two from Landi Knives on the way and one from JK Handmade, so there will probably be some changes.

Lately I've been carrying a rare Inficoot in a nice camo kydex sheath.

Cuts great, seldom needs sharpening, and it's quite compact.

some type of stockman..I rotate frequently today it's a boker large stockman with carbon blades and red smoothbone handled...if I'm inb the woods I usally take my bk-7 great combo...although I just recieved a beautiful case trapper from a friend and it's pretty awesome...

Hey Fonly...How's the steel on that grohmann ? I've been eyeing those for a while but have heard mixed reviews about the steel.

I own several Cliff knives (Canoes & Hunters) from Idaho Knife Works, Mike Mann, that I like to carry. I have been using the custom Cliff knives for many years and have found them to do everything I need a knife to do in the wilds of the Northwest, Canada, and Alaska.

Another Mike Mann knife (above the Skookum) that I like to carry during elk and moose season (my design). The 4-3/4" forged blade, 5" osage handle is pure pleasure to use on game and around camp.

I love it, it takes a wicked edge. I find it like my aus-8 Revolver H, Grohmann does an awesome job on heat treat. Plus they come with handmade sheaths, and for that matter the knives are more less handmade. Over all I highly recommend them, I have a Skinner, #4 and #3 model. All work well and have been throughly used. :D

Hi Pit dog and all I started this pathfinder on Sunday
and just finished it up in between doing up some other knives
just a few minutes ago and took some pics. So for the next few weeks
I will be carrying this knife for every day carry. Here is the specs
the blade is 6" long and is 5/32" thick of 0-1 steel with a 4.5" handle
with Orange scales of course LOL.
I also have a couple of new sheaths that I made up to carry it in.
One has a Match safe with some survival goodies in and around the
thing and it has the pouch for the sharpener too. The other just has the normal fire steel pouch and the sharpener pouch that I normaly carry anyway.

Thats one awsome Set ! If you find that you don't like it then you can send it to an old coalminer :D

Lately seems to be a Grohmann for short hikes:

And a Mini-Grip and Fixed combo for longer hikes - I like 154CM :)

My experiences with the Grohmann's is somewhat different than some others. And, I might mention, I have almost the entire line of Grohmann knives (business gifts, etc.) in my collection.

The Grohmann steels have a tendency to run on the soft side (yes, I have a hardness diamond tester in the shop). If you don't mind a little more edge maintenance in the field, the Grohmann designs can be nice to work with. I would highly recommend the carbon steel over their stainless variety if your environment allows.

I used the two Grohmann's, below, on an Alaskan wilderness moose hunt a few years ago. The #4 is stainless, while the #1 Camper is made of carbon (I made a combo sheath for the two). Both did a fair job of breaking the large animal down for the pack out. Though, a better steel would have made the job a little faster because of the constant touching up. The Grohmann's, since they run on the soft side, are a good choice for the guy who might have a problem sharpening the harder steels. Too, I have used a number of Grohmann's in the ranch butcher shop for comparison purposes. I just simply prefer a little harder steel in my field knives. All is a compromise when it comes to knife steels and designs.

Bryan will never give up the Pathfinder 5-incher. Bryan you must share more pics of the sheath set up there. I like what I see but not too clear. What tools do you have there?

I don't really mind softer steels like sak steels...I prefer having something that dulls a little easier that I can touch up as opposed to some supoer hard steel that never dulls but when eventaull does needs a couple of hours to fix....,Do they still make the carbon grohmanns?
