Wheeler's Steel * Stuck in the metal with you

I just got off the phone with Nick and let him know. Roger, you are a major credit to the custom knife collecting community, not that I ever had any doubts, but this is truly above and beyond. Thank you.

Roger- that is truly above and beyond. I can't say I'm surprised because it's just who you are. While I truly appreciate the offer, I can't take you up on it. I have the money, I've just been hovering over every penny lately trying to make this house thing happen. Thank you though my friend... that is truly awesome of you!!! :) :) :)

This whole thread pretty much sums up what I love about the world of knives. Probably the best, most informative WIP thread ever from a maker and collector/enthusiast/maker (sorry Lorien..I'm not quite sure how to place you;)), followed by a supreme act of generosity from a collector. (edit: collector/maker...sorry Roger:o.)

Fair play to you all.

Ian

Roger & Patrice,

That was really generous on your parts, but I could have told you that Nick would have refused the offer. Something called "character & integrity", something we don't see much these days outside of a few disciplines.

Lorien,

As a maker, I photograph every piece I complete. Every new owner gets a print of his knife. With those special pieces that I have professionally photographed, I always order a large 8 1/2" X 11" for my album, and a 5X7 for the customer. Everybody wins that way.

Cheers,

TV

You're right Terry, "no surprise". It's the stand-up type guy Nick is.
Fortunately, we do see quite a bit of character and integrity in the custom knife community, however you're right again, it seems to be getting rarer and rarer in general.

Nick - I understand. All I can say is that I've got more out of this thread - as have a great many others - than I can measure.

Roger

Wow. I've just spent a chunk of last night and a healthy part of today reading this thread, and if I were speaking these words it'd sound funny...my jaw's still on the floor.

What an amazing knife.

What amazing processes.

What amazing effort to put it into a WIP.

And what an amazing offer someone made to foot the bill for the professional photography.

This is the kind of thing that makes me happy I found BF. I'll bookmark this thread and make certain to refer back to it time and again.

Thanks to everyone involved.

I know it has been said at 100 times in this thread, but after reading the whole thing I must add my thanks and appreciation to Nick and Lorien for all the work that has gone into it and of course that beautiful knife.

This will go down as an all time classic thread

May I humbly propose a compromise. Nick and Lorien and Roger have really done more than their parts. And I fully understand each of them.

But what about a completely voluntary donation system through PayPal to Coop in which each of the very, very many people who have benefitted from this thread donate what they feel appropriate? (If Coop liked the thread I suppose he could opt to make his donation in the form of a small discount:) This way Nick is compensated for all his work (making the knife is not the only work here!!!); Roger is not saddled with the entire bill; and all of us have an opportunity to say thanks.

Just a thought.

John, that's a nice thought, however...
Nick will be using Coop's professional photos for his own promotion. You gotta spend money to make money, and that's one of his costs in doing business. He should foot the bill, and knows that.
Coop deserves full pop, each and every time. His work is of real, tangible value- especially to knife makers- and should not be discounted.
Roger, well he's just a good guy who wants to help and can.

So, why doesn't anyone who's thinking of donating something toward this consider buying a knifemaker they know a paid membership in Bladeforum?
That way, Bladeforum benefits, (after all, if it weren't for Bladeforum this thread probably wouldn't exist, and I probably wouldn't have ever met Nick, etcetcetc..) the knife maker benefits and those who have the scrilla, can pay it forward and do something positive from what they received via this thread.

Hi guys,

Funnily, I've only come back into this thread tonight, although it's been alive for weeks. My ears were ringing. ;)

Nick and Lorien: Like EVERYONE else has stated, the value you have given back to this community in this fantastic thread, for your time spent sharing and shooting photos and vids and educating, went WELL above the cost of a single knife image.

Put your pride in your front pocket, send me the knife (and sheath?) and I'll take care of it. (If anyone else feels like helping defray the cost they can chip in.) Yes, my work provides a formidable value. But... so did this thread.

I'm serious. I'm a NW fanboi. A gift is an honorable thing to accept with gratitude. This is more like a trade. This is a community. We work in unity.

OK?

Coop

Ok Coop. It ain't my call, but if it were I'd be cool with it. You're the man.

ps. you don't have it yet?! : )

all I know is, I don't have it:(
I just wanna chop some stuff:)

he better not be, I'd be pissed if Nick went outta pocket for that

Due to my complete lack of studio time this point in my coaching season, I am extending this opportunity for you at the Blade Show. I have not heard a word back, and have had multiple other scheduling projects come forward.

Thanks. :D
