Where Did You Get Your User-Name/Handle?

Back in late junior high and into high school.. I was kind of a... 'dark' kid... Not goth... but more like a cross between goth, punk, metal.. whatever... I wore cargo pants tucked into my compbat boots and a black band t-shirt almost every day... usually nine inch nails or tool shirts.... I had dyed black hair and piercings.... I was that kid none of you would ever let yoru daighter bring home. ;) Alternatively, while I looked "scary" on the outside, I was pretty normal on the inside. I wasn't violent or anything and I was friends with most everyone. One of my best friends in high school was a really ghetto black kid... he totally had my back in several instances where I was about to get jumped because of my looks... one of my fondest memories from high school.... I was surrounded, and was definitely going to get beat by half a dozen guys... although my tactics was to pick a single one and go ape shit on him. I might lose... but one of them was certainly going to feel worse the next day... from behind me I hear a thick ebonics accent yell, "If ya'll dont leave that white boy alone, I'mma beat all ya'll asses!"

And he would have too... I'm pretty sure he was involved in gang activity, among other things... not sure why we were friends... but it just worked out that way.

ANYWAYS... I decided that I wanted to be called "Malice" as a nick name back in the day... it never worked out, and my friends laughed at me like I was an idiot (I was..).

Some.. maybe 10 years later... long after high school graduation... I met back up with some of my old friends... None of us are remotely the same people these days. One night we were hanging out and someone brought it up... "hey remember when you wanted everyone to call you 'Malice' back in the day? haha, you retard!" So then they started calling me malice as a joke... and now... more than a decade after high school.. the stupid old nick name just stuck....

The Uncle part came when... about 5 years or so ago... I started playing that 'Mobsters' online game on MySpace... You would make a character, buy property, collect weapons, make 'hits' on people, etc... it was a stupid cliche for like 6 months the way that 'Draw Something' or 'Words With Friends' are these days... My characters name wa "Uncle Malice" to give it that... 'family' mob style feel to it... My best friend's sister started always referring to me as Uncle Malice everywhere from then on... and it has stuck ever since. I think the first forums that I started out with this name was The Firing Line gun forums... I was quite active for a long time on there (well over 2k posts) so when I went to other forums, like this one... I used the same name.

Sorry for the long winded explanation. Kind of a fun experiement I guess.

I started my membership while my wife was pregnant with my son, my son who was to be and is named Hunter. But I do love to hunt and my last name is Sharp so it works out perfect.

Haha, just kidding. I was "The Warrior Poet" on an old forum. Came from the movie Braveheart. Everyone just called me warrior, as it was easier to type, so I went with it.

my name is Julio Diez which is a latin for "July ten" in english converted to numbers is 710, so "The 710"

Back in 1984, in preparation for a Science Fiction Writer's Conference, I had just read Frank Herbert's Dune series, so the Fremen were on my mind when I signed up to my first dial-up BBS (didn't even have a computer yet, just a terminal that used channel 3 on my TV for the display). The BBS required an 8 character username, so I couldn't use Freman or Freeman, the first 8 character thing that came to mind was Freeborn, which is a user name I've used in some form or another ever since.

I "think" I signed up as Freeborn here years ago, but have forgotten the password, and probably don't even have the email addy I used... they say the memory is the second thing to go... anyway, whenever I sign up I try Freeborn, if that's taken, I tack on my real name Erik.

Sometimes, when I'm feeling pessimistic about the erosion of personal freedoms and individuals being held responsible for their actions, I'll use either Freeborn or Freedom spelled backwards (like flying the flag upside down as a symbol of distress), so sometimes I'm the user modeerf or nrobeerf, almost no one ever gets that one, though there is now an imaginary religion out there in cyberspace called modeerf, so its at least possible that someone else has a thought process like mine.

Erik

nope, not tellin'.
You may guess, but I will neither confirm nor deny the accuracy of your hypotheses.

saw this pic and had to slowly back away from my monitor, lol

I acknowledge the existence of the various offered hypotheses, but not their accuracy. :D

Although I have spent a great deal of time in NYC, I do not resemble the kind gentleman in the Yankees hat. This does not necessarily mean we are not related. (I'm more likely to wear a Beckerhead or Sig Sauer hat)

And that is a very nice flower, GS. I also do not resemble the flower, and can safely say, without giving up any secrets, that the flower and I are definitely not genetically related.

Ok, I'll take a swipe at this: From the movie Tombstone "You're no daisy. You're no daisy at all." Being how Doc Holladay describes those he can respect.

Mine is: first and middle name initials, then the first four letters of the last name (from an old army buddy who called me "hurlman", or sometimes "woddy hurlsen") , with a old home address number just to be nostalgic.

I've only had this one for about 3 years now. My previous one being cooler but less identifiable. I needed something that ID'd me and was a little more professional.

You should have uploaded the photo and left it at that--I got scared a little too-where does Dubz come from (W in warrior?)

Is that the bass ackwards thought process?:D

Stifa was my Staffordshire bull-terrier . The name came from a hebrew slang word for a stack , a "pile" or a "bunch of something" . usually money bills.

This is a stifa :

I have used Cold since about 98 when i started playing the video game Unreal online. My old house had no central heat or AC and my computer was in a room that only had an AC window unit. I was playing in the winter and was so cold I had to warm my hands in between rounds. I used the name cold because of my cold hands and my new (at the time) favorite band named Cold. About 2000, I changed it to cOLD to emphasize the Old part because my wife would make fun of me for playing games online with a bunch of kids. I was playing Counterstrike and was in 3 different online leagues, one night we were scrimming and some kid said I sounded like his grandpa on the mic, I told him I might be his grandpa because I was 32 years old.. they all went off on how freaking old I was and how did I use a mouse and keyboard at my age and all this garbage, my wife happened to hear the conversation and it stuck and i have been using it since then.

Edit: I have since changed my name on the forums to my real name, well almost real.. Lee is a nickname my Mom called me since I was a baby, I have always used it.. My real name is very uncommon, Lee has always just been easier to use.

I was a very active member of a group called The Frontiersmen Camping Fellowship. This is basically the action arm of the Royal Rangers Ministries.
My region reenacted the Fur Trade era. This was my first foray into knives, hawks, bushcrafting, and blackpowder firearms. After 23 years, I'm still a member, but not near as active anymore. Need to change that soon.
