Where Did You Get Your User-Name/Handle?

Your mom.

...Wait, sorry, my mom.

My bad.

"an artificial fly commonly categorized as a wet fly or streamer and is fished under the water surface. It is a popular and widely used pattern for both freshwater and saltwater game fish and is generally listed as one of the top patterns to have in any fly box." - wikipedia

We spell it differently around here but that's it, I enjoy fishing.

This is the license plate from the first vehicle I owned. A 1971 Ford F-100 rust bucket.

Back in the mid to late '90s I was into rock climbing. At one point I used to be a climbing guide for a camp in WI. Late '90s was when I started having email and doing things on line, so the handle I picked was rokclmb.

Since 2000 however, I've hardly climbed at all I can only remember one time between '03 and now. The handle and email have stuck. I'm just to lazy/unoriginal to come up with something new.

I have had numerous close calls with death, and walked away from many situations that I should have died in, all do in some way to my own stupidity/immaturity/ego/etc.... After having my first son, I REALLY calmed it down and became a responsible/safe man. When I was questioned by nearly everyone in my life as to why I had changed so much my answer was always that I am in-it-to-live and that my actions would always reflect that. Having a child, and now 2 of them, made me realize that I had much more to live for and I needed to quit tempting fate... no one knows when their number is up, but I try to make sure I don't push mine to the front of the line!

Man.... that all sounded kinda mushy.... :barf:

Hey init2live.....

NOT mushy and I will retail the story to others.....really liked it.......

years ago, when trying to create my first ever online screen name (for aol instant messenger), I had been going through a string on relationships that never took off. We would go on a couple dates and when it came to the first serious discussion, I would receive the "nice guy" line in some form or another. (gee you're a nice guy and all but I think I just wanna be friends...) The last girl to give me that line was dropped off at her home and promptly told to get out of my car.

I was typing in words to mix together a form a screen name and it suggested Nicegy525. I went with it and it stuck.

Years later I joined a motorcycle forum with the same screen name and earned a reputation helping other riders out. So the name Nicegy took on a different purpose.

Idlewild....I like the paradox, and Idlewild is the imaginary place that Anne, from the story Anne of Green Gables liked to go to.

DJG are my initials but that was taken so I tossed in my birth year 97, but that was taken aswell. So in came the 0. I go by DJG or DJG097 on just about everything else that I ever joined.

Mines a typo, Should've been SPC_MRN_Leon. I hit the submit button without noticing the error. I ain't paying $10 to change a letter :p. If the name couldve been long enough it would've been Space Marine Leon. Space Marines were basically from a game (Warhammer 40k) that I fell in love with around 3 years ago. Since then I got a PS3 and decided to make my name SPC_MRN_Leon. It's been my username for everything now. And also, i just like the sound and looks of it.

My last name is Murphy and I'm a pretty big Ted Nugent fan. One of my closest friends that I was in the Corps with merged the two and never let up with it. I dig it, so it stuck.

I was with the warden on a teaching contract. We were in an isolated ''fly in'' Indian reserve on lake Athabasca in northern Saskatchewan. I was fishing and killing grouse, ptarmagan. I ordered the last Becker Brute available in western Canada and had it flown in. That sucker took the wings off many a bird and gave me my first northern spruce shelter building experience, in the freezing cold of winter. I still have that knife..... So I became ''upnorth'' because that's were I was, on the edge of Caribou country. Here's a Caribou skull that I came across while fishing.

Mine - "orca" - is my navy callsign (nickname). the "8589" is the years of my enlistment.

I haven't given much thought to the origin of that nickname for years. It started in 1986, when I put in a request to join the Navy Special Warfare community - known today, of course, as the SEAL's. They weren't so well known back in the 80's. At the time I had less than two years in rating so I had to wait until mid-to-late 1987 to apply again. I was twenty lbs. over the Navy weight limit at the time, not necessarily fat; even the medical officers who gave us our twice-yearly physicals weren't worried too much about me - believe me, the work we did pretty much precluded any unhealthy weight gain.

Anyway, one of my best friends on the ship (the fellow airman I ran my arresting gear engine room with) told me one day, "you ain't no SEAL. You're more like, you know, a big goofy orca or something."

After that, the name just stuck. I didn't complain; it was one of the nicer callsigns given in our workcenter. Some of our callsigns aren't fit to repeat even in the Cove here on BF.

I didn't join USN/SW after all; by early 1988 my hearing was damaged, and I had injured myself in an accident.

My name comes from my profession. I'm a deputy sheriff, but I'll never tell what county I work for!.....or what state it's in!.......oh, wait......: ?
