would you choose--David Farmer, BRKT, or Condor--and why?

I am having a little trouble deciding. :o

Good thread. Having just read bearthedog's review of Farmer's stuff in TK magazine, I recommend the Farmer. I have one of his small knives and it has one of the sharpest edges I have ever seen.

I am not familiar with the Farmer Golok, but the Condor I recently reviewed performed very well.

I have David's first golok which later became "dangerous curves" and it is brilliant! Had a BRKT golok one of, then their regular production golok and was not impressed, so I sold 'em.
I am a long time user of condors and like them a lot, but have never used their soon to be available golok. I also am a long time user of valiants survival golok large and small.
So who wins?
Which do I pick up most??
The Dfarmer...
be safe... Ted

This is true about David's edges. Scarry sharp!

David did change the name to "dangerous curves" but it was a little too late...the article was already turned in. The black micarta Golok is actually Tony M's! Thanks Tone for letting me use the blade.

The Condor:

The BRKT looks splendid but I can do that myself. Apart from cash value vs performance I'd also have a nag about it being an off the shelf mod, and I don't like that. I like factory knives but something actives in me when modding is mentioned. Generally speaking I'm adverse to off the peg mods whether that be cars or those all in pre-modded computer cases one can pick up in PC World, whatever.

I thought the Farmer looked nice when I first saw it. Despite claims of greatness [and I have no reason to argue that], I haven't the first idea how well that would work in my hand compared to a more conventional golok shape. While it may be the best thing ever it is too estranged from me to really have a clue. It's an unknown.

It's the preservation of an old evolved pattern that gives the Condor appeal. The handle in particular stands out. After seeing one of Horn Dog's threads I'm already certain that if I cut the bit that is useless to me off the Condor what's left would be very effective for my purposes. Price wise it is pitched at around what I'd expect a good tool for rough chores to be worth. Nothing extra required or desirable.

If it were free then I'd go with the Farmer. If I were paying I'd go with the Condor. ;)

Haven't seen the TK article.
Unfortunately no stores have the mag on the shelf here...

I must have over a dozen machetes. Now I am on a golok kick. Just ordered a Martindale #2 from Britain. I could not find anybody in the US carrying them. Goloks are great for whacking things on my property.

There's a grinding job. I've not seen a badly ground one but great zot is there some metal to hog off before you can get good penetration.

I am completely biased for the CONDOR, of course, so I will say this:

Those farmers look cool> Definitely WANT. Glad that you nailed it for TK bear, but I will admit I was jealous!

I have had a chance to use a BRKT Golok, and it did EXCELLENT. It is extremely slicey and the Micarta scales are an awesome feature. I wish it had a slight point at least, but with the lightness of it, it is a great chopper. Notice the gleeful look.

But I did see one chip at PWYP.

"But I did see one chip at PWYP."

Saw that pic a couple of weeks back. 'Till there's a pattern I've got that pegged as rogue, but still...

Mike tempers those BRKT goloks to around 57-58 Rc. Sometimes the thin grind will chip. They sure are a joy to use, though.

As cool as the Barkie looks I have to agree with Joe that I'd rather see it with some kind of point. Can't think of a real advantage to not having one, at least not for the things I do. :)
