which Golok?

I know, this thread really makes me want one even more. Big Mike, that modded BRKT golok looks great as well, love the dropped point

This golok thread is too much fun. I love seeing all those different goloks out there. Here are mine. Top to bottom: Condor, British Special Forces (Hopkinson), and Bark River.

The Condor is a BEAST!!! Makes the other two look tiny and delicate.

I might have to get a golok.Looks like the perfect too for clearing brush off the property. How much was the Condor C.R.R.?

I got the Condor in the pic at Blade for around $40. Joezilla might know what they will retail for. It is a rugged golok, able to chop down trees with ease.

I hope they come out with a polypro version of it, but as I understand it plastic molds are expensive as hell, so if we buy enough of the wood-handled ones maybe they'll be able to do it. :D

I must have over a dozen machetes. Now I am on a golok kick. Just ordered a Martindale #2 from Britain. I could not find anybody in the US carrying them. Goloks are great for whacking things on my property.

They are available in the US. PM me for more info. I won't post here. Already got one "infraction" for doing that...

Off the top of my head - the similarity between that and the old Blackjack Panga seems too close to be accidental. Going for a rummage.

That was easy. I thought I was going to have to drill down to long ago but it seems the Blackjack name still carries them.

I thought the same thing when I saw Big Mike's photos of the Barkie prototype. First thing that popped into my head was that it's just a modified Blackjack Panga. I bet that it is indeed that. The Panga textured handle shape is burned into my mind because I thought about buying it several years back.

It's enough to get an alert person examining the price difference anyway. ;-)

Without a Doubt If you want Quality & Performance then you gotta go with a David Farmer Dangerous Curves, Aint No Production Golok even coming to close to a David Farmer made Blade,

I wonder if Big Mike can chime in on how well that Barkie prototype/BJ Panga chopped. At the Blade show some years back I was groping the BJ Panga but decided not to buy it. To me it felt too light in the hand and I thought it would have served much better as a fighter with its length, sharp point, and quickness in hand. And a fighter was way on the low end of the kinds of knives I buy. But of course I have no actual working experience with it. Mike Stewart's modifying of the tip certainly makes sense in turning it to a chopper. I wonder about the lightness issue. Perhaps a better brush and vine clearer rather than a chopper of thick hardwoods?

the old blackjack pangas were thinner than the new model.
The BR golok proto, cut very similar to my convexed Ontario machete golok. I modified the Ontario and the Tram in the pic years ago, just before I acquired the BR proto from Sargy in the UK.
The Ontario is the second blade down in the pic.

How did I miss this thread????

I never handled the Condor, but I have handled the BRKT. I'll take my Farmer over it!

Since you have the BRKT and the Condor. I know you do great reviews and I trust you.

I will be happy to send you the Farmer, for a head to head test against the other two!

What say you?

Of the three, I have only had the BRKT Golok. I was not impressed, and sold it. I would go for the Farmer. That will be my next one.

You could send it to me afterwards to play with :)!

I agree completely tonym!
I have the golok David Farmer made prior to dangerous curves, and it is the only one getting any in hand time now.
Wish I could have read the TK article...

I would love to test the Farmer. I now have two more goloks to compare it to, a Valient and a Martindale. It would be a Golokganza Chop-Off. :D
