That my friend is the original prototype Bark River Golok.
It was the test bed used in developing the BRK&T production Golok.
It saw lots of use (and abuse) as it was passed around to a few testers.
Ted, once I got hold of it, Mike Stewart restored it back to its original condition, including the Scottish Lion and all, thats why it looks so good.

You have way too much cool stuff, Big Mike.
I have had the opportunity to sample Tony’s Farmer, several BRK&T production Golok’s, as well as the Prototype Bark River Golok.
As good as the BRK&T production Golok is, I like the curved cutting edges on the other tools.
That said, the heavy edge spine of the straight edged Bark River Golok make it an awesome chopping tool for a blade of it’s size.

My wife once bought me a Barkie Golok as a gift. The edge had never been ground and so I sent it to BR to be sharpened and they called me to say that it was the very first Barkie golok and might have have collector value.. Grampa wound up with the blade (great guy!) and I wound up with new one. I figure you have an interest in Barkie lore, here is a pic:

It is my brother's, I recently removed that handle, and I will be doing some mods and a new handle, more traditionally shaped.
I have a design for one, a little different from the pack, I hope to make mine soon.

...Steve (Grampa) is indeed a great guy; in fact, he lent me one of his Goloks for testing as part of a review I was working on before the latest run was released.
