Which knives from your collection...

As I conceal carry daily, there won't be a time when I'm unable to reach a firearm, and thus be forced to depend on whatever folding knife I have on me (any other answer doesn't really make sense). So, multiple attackers will all be stabbed...with bullets.

Fair enough...but what are those bullets heat treated to? :D

Not sure, but I have to wonder whether or not their passage through the atmosphere at whatever feet per second (haven't looked up all the specs on these HPs I have right now) messes with that treatment to any degree!

Pretend your pistol has that 1 in a million chance of catastrophic failure that renders it unusable.

As that probability is as low as the probability that anyone will be able to successfully defend themselves against multiple determined assailants with only a folding knife*, what would be the point?

*After all, how many people are carrying around some of these machetes and large Busse combat blades they're mentioning?

A sebenza. I would toss it to them and they would be to busy fighting over it and forget about me. The same logic as throwing a rib eye to some attack dogs.

To answer the first part, nobody said your defense attempt would be automatically be SUCCESSFUL(I'm pretty sure 2 of the responders have already stated they'd likely not survive), it was just asked with what would would try.

To answer the second part, I was assuming the situation occured in my home, where I have a whole variety of blades within reach at any given time. I mean, if I was in my room and someone busted down my door, I have like 3 DOZEN machetes within easy reach, and another couple dozen "fighting/combat" knives. There's literally not a place I would be in my room where I couldn't have a machete in hand in about 2 seconds. Sure, I have guns too, but they're kept in their cases and stored unloaded. And if I was completely unaware of an upcoming attack until they were actually coming through my door, I could get to a machete or combat knife faster than I could get to my guns. Now, if I just thought I heard something and was gonna go investigate, yeah, I'd get a gun first and take it with me, but if say, I just wake up and my door is opening, well...I can have a machete in hand right away.

I don't want to be that guy, but I'll just say this. I have a firearm locked and loaded* in every major room in my home secreted in an easily accessible place. I practice with drawing from concealment regularly, and do so specifically so I won't ever have to fight an intruder with a knife or otherwise hand to hand. Just not going to happen. Also, both my wife and I are good shots, and we hit the range regularly. For me to have to run upstairs to my study to drag out one of my long blades, multiple catastrophic failures would have to have happened. But why do that? I'd just come down with my AR instead. Hmmmm...sword or AR-15...whelp, I can tell you which one I would pick, but that's just me. Multiple assailants? That's long-gun with multiple magazines stuffed in your pockets time.

I mean, a machete? The chain of events that would lead to me engaging a threat with a machete would be long and statistically improbable. LOL :D

*Ahhhh the blessing of not having any children around

Too many moving parts and a reliance on chemical stability.

As to the question of the OP, it would depend on whether you're facing a group of multiple attackers that are bent on killing you no matter what the personal cost it... or a group that'll come to realize not only is **** real but it is on when they see one of their companions get seriously injured by the intended target.

Wait, what?! LOL We're not talking about some old Russian Nagant pistol loaded with some milsurp from a questionable source! Come on, now!

Anyway, hey, tell you what. Let me stick to the topic at hand. If it were me, and (insert some chain of events leading to me A. having time to select from my collection and B. needing to use it to defend myself) happened, then it's going to be one of my Paul Chen Practical katanas. That way, no matter if the assailants are on foot, or in a tank, they're getting chopped in half, because hell yeah, KATANA.

That in one hand and a CRKT Ultima 7 in the other, with a Boker Plus Kalashnikov 101 as a backup.

Or, going the machete route, maybe a Walther Mach Tac 2 . . .

. . . or skipping knives altogether and grabbing my Dead-On Annihilator demolition tool. Yeah, baby!
