"White Owl"... 3.5" Equal End... from GEC

I really like the way the spear blade repeats the handle shape

LOL! :) I greatly prefer natural handle materials so I haven't paid much attention to their acrylics. Their "tomato" acrylic had sort of a 60's flair to it though. I'm not sure what to make of the kryptonite but the name is clever.

...I also don't like a bail on this one. The ebony with clip blade is nice. I think it would look even better with some big swedges on the blades.

I get the picture...
Is it a Knife?
Is it a Slipjoint?
Is it Traditional?
It's Fluorescent!:D

Don't mind so long as it's in the Bail-Free Zone:grumpy:

^^^ those scales are beautiful Jeff.

Call me crazy but I thinking GEC is not only going to be known for their excellent quality but also for these art deco acrylic scales. Gold Glitter not withstanding of coarse.

Again, I prefer the clip version, although I love the ebony wood in the last one.....but.....am I the only one here who thinks that GEC's acrylic handles look better than most of their bone handles?

Then I'm not the only one :D

Hmm, will be a nice pattern. I hope they make some of those in copper-toned jigged bone like few of their knives. Such beautiful color.

+1 I would like to see them use that copperhead bone on this too.

I just placed an order for a Tidoute spear in rusty red bone. I'll be wringing my hands till it gets here.

Certainly does have that Old School aspect, nice shield to show off the wood.

Maybe they'll slip up and let a few loose bail-less.....

I am digging the way the bail works on the Northfield. This pattern looks nearly ideal for my comfort and use. Unfortunately, I made a well-reasoned vow to myself a couple of months back to refrain from purchasing any new GEC knives which are not offered in stainless steel. As pretty as they do look in the pictures, they are not made to last in ocean air. Here's hoping that GEC begins to roll out some of these new patterns in 440C!

One blade is larger
And one blade is small
And the ones that GEC makes
Don't have any gaps at all
Go ask GEC to produce an order ten feet tall

And if you go chasing white owls
And you know you're going to fall
Tell 'em a hookah smoking BF member
Has given you the call

Classic, Jake! Made me grin. You are feeling quite imaginitive today.:D

:thumbup::thumbup: supratentorial.

Perhaps the White Owl should come out in some crazy acrylics. Dead Rabbit Acrylic? Cheshire Chestnut? :D

Jazub ..... psychedelic and far out, man! Thanks for that blast from the past. BTW, I was a naive Iowa farm boy at the time and had no idea what that song was about, but I really liked it just the same. :p

It's Not the steel that matters ! With proper heat treatment the steels currently used give excellent service. Let GEC focus on design, details (like swages, threaded bolsters, etc), fit and then finish. If they start focusing on what the steel is, i fear less attention will be paid to the more important aspects involved in getting every knife 'just right'.
The advantages of the more expensive steels over 1095 and 440C are minimal and except for complex cutting competitions aren't needed.

There is a lot to like with this pattern and a lot of choices to make... spear or clip, bail or no bail, handle material... So I'm glad there aren't three different steels to decide on. If I had a personal knife made in this pattern I'd take one with no bail, spear master, threaded but not pinched bolsters, and a sheepfoot blade. :D

I'm looking forward to seeing the complete Northfield lineup before deciding between jigged and primitive bone. I do like single spring knives and this one looks like a dandy. I especially like the slim styling, and the long pull on the spear blade.

I really like the name White Owl they chose for this pattern. Here is the majestic Snowy Owl cruising under the radar.

Incredible picture Hal. One of yours ?
Merry Christmas, esp. to those of us who live alone and visit here on Christmas day.

Not my pictures, but a favorite raptor, and an occasional Canadian visitor to the Great Plains.

Hope some of you got a nice slipjoint in your stocking this morning.

Merry Christmas to all!
