Who actually carries a Buck 110 daily?

Buckaholic, I LIKE that S30V blade Alaskan Guide with the thumbstud. I think that such a blade in on my next to acquire list. In the picture above, I would love to have the blade of the bottom knife on the handle of the one above it.
Mrostov...thanks!
Check out this link for a pic of the Alaskan 110 s30V blade in a 560 body like you mentioned. It is really too cool for school...

I really like the 'Buckbenza'. Now I have a quest. :D

You know, if Buck ever put that fingergroove titanium handle back into production with an S30V blade, I'd buy one in a heartbeat, no matter what they charged for it.

Even if they charged $500 for it???

LFH, I'd like to hear your method, but IMHO there's a reason why every folder made nowadays that is equipped for one handed opening has a thumbstud, thumb grip hole, or some simliar method.

Ok, Will give it a shot, but I don't explane things well.

I simply grip the closed blade at the tallest spot (just above the nail nick) and flick the body downwards. The knife will open to lock, and then I just kine of flip it back up into my hand.

Like I said, it takes a little pratice. And if you feel like its a miss, let it go and get your feet and hands out of the way. Do it on soft ground incase you drop it. When I close it one handed, I grip the handle with butt up and depress the lock and bearly move the blade against my thigh, then clear my fingers and take it on to close.

A lot of folks will disagree with this, but I have been doing it with my two dot almost ever since I bought it new. It is still a tight blade and my opening method hasn't harmed it any. Nor have I ever been cut. I do have small hands/fingers so that hay help me grip it easier.

And for what its worth, I can do the same thing with a Swamp Rat, Rat Trap. Not that I need to.

I did retire the two dot this year after grabbing a couple a three Alaskans with the S30V.

Well, I was sorta, kinda, maybe thinking of a price under $150

Oh. I was sorta kinda maybe thinking what I could get for a Cabelas S30V blade in an eBay 560...maybe with studscrews...

I think that you've explained it well, LFH.

The 110's handle is heavy enough to open a 110 that way, fairly easily, but, safety first. It can also be fairly easy to lose your grip on the blade when opening a 110 that way, like after oiling, so, anything downwards is potentially in danger.

A OAB sounds safer/safest when I start listing all of the possibly dangerous aspects to opening a 110 with a "pinch grip" on the blade.... But, it is doable.

LFH is Pack Rat??? Bucaholic is Mfinden???

Is there any really good reason to have two BladeForums handles??? Like one from your work PC and one from your home PC??? There's someone else here with two handles and they switch back and forth, too...(Can't remember who it is)...

I'm just wondering if there is an advantage to having two usernames/accounts... ;)

:D ...Oh yeah...I don't carry a 110 every day but I have been carrying that 112 drop point I built most every day...The 110 is for week ends...:)

The simple addition of a thumbstud would do wonders for the popularity of the 110.

I agree. I think it would be like the perfect knife if it had a thumbstud.

I am at my parents house on their pc. I didn't realize till I made the earlier post that I still had this pc set to the old LFH name. Between posts I changed it. No advantages/disadvantages. Just changed to Pack Rat because I liked it better. And I didn't know at the time that for a nominal charge, I could have changed handles and kept the 400+ post numbers I had. But no big deal.

I sign off with lfh instead of Larry, simply because we all think of Larry Oden when we see Larry. Not me....

Yeah, I explained why I switched somewhere else in threadland. What a waste though...I paid for BASIC and got nothing. No answers to my two or three e-mails asking why I can't post an avatar and all that jazz...but they had no problem taking my $10 right away.
Was thinking of using "Goose", but that would be ridiculous...right Chicken and Rat?
Goose.

BTW, I don't use the other sign-on and don't know how to delete it. That would prob cost me another $10.

I've not EDC'd my 110 yet. Not sure why really, just haven't. ;)

I'm working up to carrying it. It looks to nice to use. :D

Joe,,,,. Sorry your thread got drifted. In my post I forgot to say that I carry a 110 almost full time during hunting season November, December and part of Jan.

If I had the same sheath set up to be horizontal carry like the 277 Alpha sheath, I might well carry the 110 full time. The vertical carry sheath is a bit cumbersome for me getting in and out of vehicles.

And the 110 I would be carrying would be an Alaskan S30V

Yeah, but such a project is still going run between $150 - $200 when you're done.

Thanks, I see how you're doing that. That may come in pretty handy. The trick is not to really flick the wrist but to provide a bit of downwards momentum for the heavy brass and wood handle to drop down and lock into place. A heavy handle seems to help, especially on a tight knife.

I was thinking of watching again the scene in slow motion, frame by frame, from the movie 'Kill Bill' where Beatrix flicks open lightning fast that Buck 112 just before she severs the Achilles tendon of the lecherous male nurse (who name is 'Buck' ironically enough).

I think you got it... The 560's are a bit tougher to open like that. 112's do ok.

I gotta catch that Kill Bill flick and step through that scene myself. I think my camera has a movie setting. Wonder if I could make a movie opening a 110.....:jerkit:

I can actually open my 110/2 faster using "hold by the spine" method than using a OAB. 110 is quicker due to the physics of size/weight and leverage.
The trick is getting it to that point of being able to grasp the spine when you need it and getting it to land in the palm just right.

Ahh....Grasshoppah, when you can flick your 110 open in one move...
Or, Grasshoppah...you so Sirusly wise to have 298GY with you all time...

Goose.

PS, LOL, that's right, I forgot about that scene in "Bill" with "Buck". Interesting.

When I was a kid in the70's my dad would always take extra 110's with him out ito the African interior as trade goods and barter items. In the 70's, genuine Buck 110's (with the old, very hard 440C blades) were extremely valued items in the African bush. Word had it that two sharp Buck 110's could skin an entire rhino.
Michael...
When are you going to the PI?
How many 110 units you taking?
Bring back some Patis. Man, I love that stuff.
You can prob get a a pallet of that for a 110.

Ya know, I recall when I was in the BSA in the PI, that the Philippine scouts loved the Bucks some of us would carry. As Americans I think we sometimes lose sight of being the Lucky Bucks we are. Can't get an Alaskan in Canada or the UK...it's like a whole diff currency.

Been to about a dozen foreign lands and there is no place I'd rather be.
There's no place like home. There's no place like home.

We are lucky to have our own Private Idaho (B-52's)...

Yes, getting back on-topic...although I have several 110 variants, none are sharpened...so I carry a 560 w/BG-42 blade that another Forum member must have sharpened (thanx, John!)... :D

...But I need a good sharpener, so I can start carrying some of what I think are neat 110's... ;)
