Who else hates pocket clips?

I like the idea of a pocket clip on a knife, but I do a lot of detail work on cars (another hobby).

If you work on cars a steel pocket clip can ruin your day ......

I like the option of using the pocket clip but don't always use it. On a good design the clip won't give you a funky grip.

It all depends on the size and shape of the knife, what you are wearing, and activities you are doing.

Well, clip or not always depends on the knife, I carry. When I´m in duty, I like pocket clips. My Grippie is nothing without a clip, when not on my belt, I feel naked.

In my spare time I use to carry traditional folders, there I don´t like any clips (would look a little bit strange ;) ).

Kind regards

I'm a clip lover, if it is a deep-carry type clip, or if it can be made into a deep-carry clip. Like the OP, I'm into discrete carry. Another thing I've found is that clips can be shortened and still function as they should. This also helps with discrete carry.

I only carry clipped knives IWB. I've never understood blocking entrance to my pocket with a knife that could literally be clipped anywhere. In the five o'clock position, with the clip under a belt, you have no idea I'm carrying a knife that size.

I lost my Manix 2 a few months ago. Pretty sure the pocket clip got caught on a backpack strap or something.

I never really gave this much thought until now: I can say with all certainly though, that I am a huge fan of pocket clips. Any discomfort or irritation I might have ever noticed from using one (which is none, thus far), is far exceeded by the supreme usefulness and convenience of it; the knife is right where I need it, and in the same position, every time. No fumbling, no mixing it up with anything else in my pocket, no scratches. Perfect.

As others have mentioned, if your pants have belt loops (I'm guessing they do?), put your keys on a carabiner, clip it to one of your rear belt loops and tuck 'em in your back pocket (mine grab a ride in the same pocket as my wallet). Best idea for keys, ever. Now your knife can cruise solo in your front pocket (although I sometimes have a lip balm stick or change in there, too).

Honestly, I very likely wouldn't carry a knife daily if it didn't have a clip, so... I guess that about sums it up for me.

I prefer to wear my knives on a belt sheath, so I take off the clip and buy a sheath. I wouldn't go as far as saying I "hate" them, but I prefer a slimmer profile with the scales.

I really like pocket clips. Keeps the knife in a consistent place, so I can always get to it easily when I need. It also keeps the knife from falling out of my pockets when sitting down (especially when wearing slacks). I also carry a SAK that sits freely at the bottom of my pocket, and occasionally, I'll have to fumble around a bit to untangle them from my keys. Other pocket contains my phone, and the two don't get along well (phone gets all scratched up).

I don't use clips on the knives I carry. They are removed and I tie a lanyard/fob on my EDC knives. I even went so far as to drill a lanyard hole in my favorite EDC blade a Spyderco Sage 2. I've held off on the Chaparral because it doesn't look like there is room for a lanyard hole. But I like clips on my backup knives that I keep in my backpack in my car or in my Bag. I like to have them stay in place ond not fall to the bottom of the bag/backpack.

I used a clipped knife when they first came out and it got caught on something and I lost it. Haven't gotten over it yet. I was pretty poor at the time and it was quite awhile before I got another knife. Just can't bring myself to trust them.

Grizz

I rarely clip a knife to my pocket but I like the clip on there because it gives me a better grip while opening and closing the knife.

Some knives I prefer clipped, some I don't.I would never wish for a clip on one of my 110s.

I like larger knives. I EDC a Spyderco Military. But the first thing I do with a new knife is remove the clip. I then drop it into my pocket like an old time slip-joint.:D

Me too. I carry a Military the same way. Do yo carry tip down or tip up? What do you carry that way if I may ask?

I love pocket clips, they are very functional. I hate it when you carry a knife in your pocket and it turns horizontal, it's very uncomfortable. I also find that it makes some knives more attractive, framelocks for example look better with a pocketclip, and they are easier to close with the pocket clip to grip. I tend to carry my knife clipped to my right pocket, and i'll carry my phone in my left pocket, and my wallet in my ass pocket.

I won't carry anything else in the pocket where i have my knife clipped, to protect the knife from scratches and because i don't like too much clutter in my pockets. However i don't like all pocket clip styles like the one that are really wild looking, like a junkyard dog 2 pocket clip;), i'd rather not have a pocket clip if it's gonna be crazy like that. My favorite clips I've used so far are the spyderco wire clip and CRK clip.
