Who else hates pocket clips?

However i don't like all pocket clip styles like the one that are really wild looking, like a junkyard dog 2 pocket clip;), i'd rather not have a pocket clip if it's gonna be crazy like that.

Oh, that's a good point worth noting. Some pocket clips are pretty hideous, and there have been a few knives I've passed over because I can't get past the look of the clip -- several of Ken Onion's designs fall into this category. A bad clip can definitely ruin the look of a really nice knife, so I could see that as being a reason to ditch it. For me, I just end up moving onto another knife altogether.

Totally depends on the design of the clip Imo. 99% of them absolutely are crap. Sog's bayonnet style seem to fit ok and so do a lot of Spyderco's I have. Seems like with most folder manufactures only a few knives in their line up have any thought put into their clip design. On a lot of knives the clips totally ruin the whole package. Taking the clip off and pocket carrying a knife with a lousy clip ( or in a pouch) is definately an option to make the knife fit your lifestyle.

I've been thinking of getting a CS Mini-Lawman which from what I've seen has a horrible clip that's mounted too low, but would make a nice back pocket Edc. You hardly feel a Delica in your pocket once the clip is removed as well..

Small knives like the Delica fit perfectly in the coin pocket of your jeans. I wear jeans 99% of the time anyway. If you have a smaller knife with a crummy looking clip, you can always try the William Henry clip pouches. They carry really deep and clip is very basic and plain looking. They won't fit larger knives though. Seriously though, stitching that small pocket inside my front pocket works really well for the larger blades I carry and you can still put change or keys on the other side without it scratching up your knife. Aesthetically, I think all clips look bad, so if there's an off chance I really need that option, I'll either use a belt sheath or the William Henry clip pouch.

Sometimes with jeans but not lately. Never with nice pants. I usually take them off the ones I carry a lot.

I hate them too, but I still use them. It's a necessary evil for me.

+1

Every time I take a clip off a knife to adjust it I have to let out a sigh. So many knives with beautiful handles that get ruined by that square, flat bit of metal screwed on the side.

I love pocket clips. Sometimes I'll leave the knife at home and just carry a handful of pocket clips.

Seriously, I find that pocket clips are not that big of a deal to make a fuss over. If you don't like clips, remove them. If you really like the knife but hate the clip, you can usually find a replacement clip for it, if you care to look hard enough.

I don't like my knife ending up at the bottom of my pocket. I don't keep my knife in the same pocket as my keys either, just like I don't keep keys in the same pocket as my phone. I like my knife to be where I clipped it, and not have to fish around my pocket when I need it.

A lot of hate going on here lately. My favorite knife has serrations, is coated, and has a clip. The horror!

I do like the idea of stitching your pocket to make a divider.

Options, options, options. I like being able to clip the knife either to my pocket or waistband for shorts. But if the clip is goofy, non-effective or leaves too much of the knife hanging out above, I love being able to remove it and drop it in my pocket. It definitely is more comfortable to use a knife without the clip, no question, but the possibility of having it or not is a great option pending on the blade.

I was thinking of getting an addtl. pocket clip for my Kershaw Random Leek folder. It's tip up or tip down. If I can get another one sent to me I can install it and with both clips available, I can clip it whichever way I fancy on a given outing. It's partially serrated too!

I like the pocket clip for my work knives. At first I thought they were more mall ninjery, but I have found the clips to be indispensable for my larger knives. I don't want a sheath for a couple reasons, one being it is hard to get my carpenter's bag on with a sheath knife.

With a clip, I can put my bags on, then clip the knife to the bags. Also, I wear my shirt tail out most of the time, and the clip is easily hidden by my shirt when I am not "at work", doing estimates, etc.

I don't want my large knives in my pocket as I feel like I have a piece of rebar in my jeans. Besides, I am a two knife guy and use a larger knife for the work part of my day, and use a peanut or small jack to cut cigars, pick splinters, etc. So there isnt' much room in there left for a larger work knife.

When someone designs a knife with a clip that feels as good in the hand as the same knife without a clip, I will start loving clips. :D.
Until then, I take them off.

I have had the idea a few times to have a dedicated knife pocket added to my dickies work pants. As they are now I back pocket carry my 4" folder and use that side leg pocket for a good pen light and my "public friendly" knife

Definitely don't hate them. Most of the knives I purchase I want a pocket clip. If I like it enough I will make a clip and add it to the knife. At times I don't like the clip that comes with the knife and make another to my taste. Knives usually, IMO, look better without a clip but for me I find them a necessity. Dress pants being the exception. (sometimes)

Me too. I carry a Military the same way. Do yo carry tip down or tip up? What do you carry that way if I may ask?

Tip down usually with IWB carry. You don't have the edge of the pocket holding the blade closed and with the pivot at the bottom, I've had them open on me from (apparently) gravity; and one time involved a number of stitches in my hand when I reached for it. As to what knives, usually a Hinderer XM-18 though I also very frequently carry a Lionsteel SR-1 which is tip-up only, though so tight and with enough tension from the frame lock that I'm not worried about it opening on me. The tip-up one I ended up impaled on was a Spyderco that opened a lot easier.

Pocket clips have their place. But in my neck of the woods, they're just a way to draw unwanted attention to the fact that I'm carrying a knife. I don't normally have a need to get to my knife in a hurry and if I use a clip, I'm always a little concerned that the knife might fall out of my pocket. And like Bastid, I've never handled a folder that felt better with a pocket clip than without one. So for my circumstances, deep pocket carry works just fine.

i carry all of my knives with their pocket clips on. i hate when there just floating around in my pocket, and i like that when it is clipped it is always in the same place. I do not find the pocket clip to be anoying when using the knife at all, except for when it is set up for tip down carry. But i do not have any of my knives set up for tip down
